Since its inception in 1993, Dell’s ‘eXtreme Performance System’ or XPS range has been a hallmark of powerful personal computers focused on productivity. This, the XPS 16, with its “no expenses spared” attitude, proudly carries on that legacy with gusto.
The XPS 16’s seamless, machined aluminium svelte chassis carries a minimalist aesthetic. The keyboard deck’s layout with its flush-fitting backlit keys, LED touch bar, expansive frosted glass palmrest and touchpad with built-in haptic feedback look properly sophisticated. The 16.3-inch UHD+ OLED touchscreen display, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and with its negligible bezels, completes the highly desirable visage of this ultra-premium machine.
The XPS laptops are meant to be full-size desktop PC replacements, so this XPS 16 hides top-tier hardware within its lithe frame. Its combination of an Intel Core Ultra 9 with 16 cores, capable of up to 5.1GHz with Turbo Boost, an 8GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 and 32 gigs of DDR5X RAM simply demolishes tasks left right and centre. No matter what you throw at it, the XPS 16 simply gets it done. We have been primarily using the XPS 16 for editing, colour grading and rendering videos. All I can say is that this laptop slices through everything like a hot knife through butter.
While my productivity has gone up because of the touchscreen display adding a different dimension of interaction with what’s on the screen, anyone who had a chance to glance at the gorgeous display went gaga over its vivid color reproduction and sheer clarity. The 10W quad-speaker setup outputs 360-degree spatial sound with its Dolby Atmos and Waves MaxxAudio enhancement making everything sound phenomenal.
I have used it for more than four to five hours with a heavy workload of graphics and video edits and it still had plenty of juice left over. The XPS 16 also packs in an Intel Killer Wi-Fi 7 1750, which meets Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 standards and allows for blazing fast speeds of up to 5.8 Gbps. The power brick is a 130W USB-C unit and all three USB-C ports on the laptop support charging. The 1080p webcam is great for daily online meetings. It’s been a month of me using this powerhouse and I can’t wait to play some proper games on it and do more productivity related stuff. Till then, stay tuned for more updates in our upcoming issue.
