With the arrival of the monsoons, your beloved motorcycle needs some extra love and care. Frequent washing and chain maintenance is necessary. When you ride in the rain, the motorcycle chain picks up more mud and coarse sand particles, which settle on the chain and the sprocket, causing more wear and tear than usual. This means cleaning and lubing the chain-sprocket has to be more frequent. This monsoon, we prepared our motorcycle with the Castrol Chain Care Kit, and here is how it fared.
The Castrol Chain Care Kit comes in a box containing two spray cans – chain cleaner and chain lubricant, each measuring 150ml. With a fairly simple process, we prepared the motorcycle by putting it up on the centre stand and started by spraying chain cleaner on the chain and sprocket. We could instantly see the chain shedding all the dirt and grime stuck to it, even without a brush. After 5 minutes of letting the cleaner soak, we manually wiped the chain clean, then sprayed a generous amount of Castrol Chain Lube on it and let it dry.

A clean chain also means smooth operation and less noise, which was the first thing we noticed after we took the motorcycle for a spin. Even after more than two weeks of daily riding, the chain did not appear dry, and the smoothness of operation remained intact. In fact, we noticed very little debris stuck to the chain, which is a good thing, and the lubricant did not seem to wash out even after the motorcycle was ridden frequently in the rain. The chain lube is compatible with all chain types – O-ring, X-ring and Z-ring and creates a layer over the chain to offer continuous lubrication, something that you should expect from the product. The Castrol Chain Care Kit is priced at ₹500, and considering at least three cycles of cleaning and lubing the chain, the price seems justified. Not only this, the performance is good, and it does manage to clean and keep the chain lubed, even after subjecting it to frequent riding in the rain.
