Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Government of India Join Forces

Automotive industry stalwart, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, exchanges MoU with National Institute of Energy to assess the feasibility of hydrogen power for cars in India.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding

Toyota Kirloskar Motors today exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Institute of Solar Energy in a move to boost India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and long-term carbon-neutrality ambitions. To further strengthen support, TKM also presented its hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, the Mirai, to NISE. The Mirai will now undergo testing to evaluate its real-world performance and feasibility in accordance with Indian driving and climatic conditions. This essential collaboration between the automotive industry and the government policy will accelerate India’s transition toward a clean, secure, and hydrogen-based energy ecosystem.

The Memorandum of Understanding took place in the presence of Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister of New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Union Minister of State in Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and Power, Government of India, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Abhay Bakre, Mission Director, National Green Hydrogen Mission, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Dr. Mohammad Rihan, Director General, National Institute of Solar Energy, along with the senior leadership from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mr. Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Governance and other senior executives.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding

The Toyota Mirai presented to NISE will now undergo assessment of parameters such as performance on varying terrain, refuelling challenges, driveability, hot- and cold-weather feasibility, fuel efficiency, real-world range, and behaviour in the Indian environment. NISE will also test the Mirai for its ability to handle Indian road conditions, traffic, dust, and the extremes of the Indian climate.

The association between Toyota Kirloskar Motors and the government is a welcome initiative that will help the country move towards a greener, more sustainable future with world-class technology. We hope to see more such initiatives from various manufacturers in the future.
