Lenovo Legion GO

A lot more than just a portable gaming device

Hand-held gaming PCs are the newest and one of the most interesting trends, and one that’s quite difficult to get right. Lenovo’s Legion Go is the newest entrant in this segment which is dominated by the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally.

Ergonomics are a big factor in hand-held gaming PC’s — you’re holding it in your hands for extended periods while gaming. Here, the Legion Go misses out on some points. The controller grips aren’t the most ergonomic and with its offset design, the lower right thumb-stick ends up putting more pressure on your lower palm area.

That said, you can simply detach the controllers and prop the screen unit on the integrated kickstand-a cool and useful feature. The right controller even turns into a vertical mouse and has a tiny scroller integrated neatly on the top. The detachable controllers feel solid, and the buttons are high quality with the thumb-stick having a highly tactile feel. It even gets a trackpad on the right controller, useful to navigate through its Windows 11 interface.

The highlight is the 8.8-inch IPS display that’s larger than the competition’s. It is bright and with its 144Hz refresh rate, feels like a shrunken gaming monitor. It offers an immersive gaming experience with its sharp, vibrant display and negligible screen lag. The Gorilla Glass 5 layer is also a cool touch.

It gets two USB-C ports so you can plug in an external hard drive, keyboard or even an external monitor. While gaming performance is quite impressive, it drains the battery easily, offering around three hours of gaming performance.

The Legion Go is one fantastic gaming device that impresses with its big screen, versatility and performance, but could do better in terms of hand-held ergonomics.
