Nissan India is back, with an onslaught of products led by SUVs and practical cars like the Gravite, Nissan’s first launch in a while. The Gravite prices start at ₹5.65 lakh ex-showroom; however, this is an introductory price, and we expect it to be just a smidge under ₹6 lakh once the introductory period ends. The Gravite has the vibe of an MPV—and surely it is one—with three rows of seats, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder motor that produces 72 PS and 96 Nm.

There’s a utilitarian cabin that looks slightly premium for its segment. Then there are the usual knick-knacks like a wireless charging pad in the centre console, USB ports, a touch-operated infotainment screen, digital instrumentation, steering-mounted controls, and dual-tone seat covers. The glove box and the small storage space in the centre console are cooled—an added convenience or just a novelty, you be the judge. The second- and third-row seats also get cooling vents for added comfort.

Being a three-row car, the Gravite comes with lots of space in the first two rows, but the third row is mostly for kids. However, the third row is also versatile, as the seats can be taken out completely to liberate some boot space.

The Gravite will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that produces 72 PS and 96 Nm, mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or an AMT. Nissan will also launch a CNG version of the Gravite, but it will arrive at a later date. Safety-wise, the Gravite will be available with six airbags, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist, brake assist, and ABS with EBD, plus a parking camera and sensors.

At the Gravite launch event, Nissan also showcased the CNG option, which will arrive later. The Gravite CNG is identical to the petrol trim; however, it has two large CNG tanks in the boot, which take up lots of space and leave almost no room for essentials.
Nissan’s plans for India also include the arrival of the Tekton, Nissan’s take on the midsize SUV segment. After that, the company plans to bring in a 7-seater C-segment SUV, which should be fun.
