Homegrown auto maker Tata Motors and Stellantis have completed 20 years of partnership in their joint venture, Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited. Furthermore, both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to extend their partnership to include engineering, manufacturing, and distribution in the country and abroad.

Speaking on the milestone and the opportunity ahead, Grégoire Olivier, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis Asia Pacific, said: “FIAPL stands as a testament to what two strong organisations can achieve together. As we commemorate this milestone, we remain focused on evolving the partnership to support future-ready manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable growth in the region.”

The joint venture between Tata Motors and Stellantis has focused on manufacturing and supply chain development, leveraging Stellantis’ knowledge of global markets and Tata Motors’ local manufacturing capabilities.

Recently, Tata Motors acquired the licensing rights for the in-house development of the 2.0-litre Multijet II turbocharged diesel engine. The engine is found under the bays of the Jeep Compass, Jeep Meridian, Tata Harrier and the Tata Safari, albeit in different states-of-tune. Over 1.37 million vehicles have been produced since the beginning of the partnership.

Currently, three Tata Motors vehicles and four Jeep vehicles are being produced at the FIAPL Ranjangaon Plant, which is a 50:50 joint venture. The plant employs about 5,000 people and produces 2.22 lakh vehicles every year. The Tata Nexon and the Jeep Compass are also made in the Ranjangaon Plant, apart from the CKD versions of the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler.
