Bajaj Auto has recently opened a new manufacturing plant in Manaus, Brazil, marking a significant expansion in its global operations. The inauguration ceremony, attended by the Governor of Amazonas and various dignitaries, highlighted the company’s entry into the Brazilian market.
Located at Av. do Turismo, nº 13.529 – Bairro Tarumã, the new facility covers 9,600 square meters and is equipped with modern manufacturing technology. It includes facilities for engine assembly, vehicle assembly, and testing, with a production capacity of 20,000 units per year operating on a single shift. The choice of Manaus is strategic due to local fiscal incentives and proximity to key supply chains and transportation networks.
The plant features automated production lines and rigorous quality control systems aimed at maintaining manufacturing efficiency. Operational processes are managed through the Protheus ERP system, covering manufacturing operations, supply chain management, finance, and human resources. Initially, the plant will focus on producing Dominar models, with plans to expand to include Pulsar models in the future. The facility has already obtained ISO certification, underscoring its commitment to meeting international quality standards.
Construction of the plant began in June 2023, and it became operational within a year, emphasizing a swift setup to meet market demands effectively. Local suppliers have been integrated into the supply chain, and the facility has started sourcing motorcycle components locally, contributing to the regional economy.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto Ltd, commented on the inauguration, noting the plant’s role in enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and supporting market expansion. The company aims to broaden its distribution network and introduce new products in Brazil, emphasizing long-term growth in the region.
Looking ahead, Bajaj do Brasil plans to expand the plant’s capacity to 50,000 units per year, positioning itself for further growth in Brazil’s automotive sector. The establishment of the Manaus plant represents a strategic move for Bajaj Auto to strengthen its presence in the Brazilian market and enhance its global manufacturing capabilities.
