The company has invested to future-proof its in-house design studio

A decade ago, Mahindra set up its dedicated design house named Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS), which was in 2015. Furthermore, to channel its aspirations of forging world-class products for global markets as well as India, Mahindra also set up its second design arm, the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) in 2021 at Coventry, United Kingdom. These two dedicated studios have spearheaded the development of the distinct design language and identity which Mahindra vehicles are now known for.

MIDS was initially established to provide design support for Mahindra’s automobile and farm products, but as the company has since ventured into the last-mile mobility (LMM) sector, Mahindra has now decided to invest in upgrading the infrastructure of MIDS. This was done with the aim of better equipping the studio to handle its increased responsibility as well as the addition of new design verticals, such as human-machine-interface (HMI) design, design quality and realisation.

This brings us to the studio’s swanky new building that has undergone an expansion recently. Set within Mahindra’s manufacturing hub in Kandivali, Mumbai, the revamped in-house design studio also boasts the latest technology and equipment in addition to the upgraded infrastructure. A dedicated paint booth for quick prototyping, an advanced clay modelling machine with dual robotic arms and a 3D visualisation room are some of the new facilities installed within the extended premises.

With these latest upgrades, Mahindra is also aiming to attract top design talent to join MIDS and further boost the company’s ability to conceptualise and design products for a global audience while keeping in touch with its Indian roots.
