TVS has come out with its new electric scooter, christened the TVS X. The focus is entirely on performance and connected tech, and it is positioned as a premium vehicle, reflected by its price which starts at Rs 2.50 lakh, ex-showroom (without subsidies). The striking design has a hint of the Italjet Dragster, one of the sportiest scooters ever made. There’s a naked handlebar, split seat and a single-sided swingarm with an offset rear monoshock.
The permanent magnet synchronous motor pumps out 15PS and 40Nm, juiced up by a 4.44kWh battery pack – good for a range of 140km (IDC). Claimed 0-40kmph acceleration is 2.6 seconds, with a top speed of 140kmph. The battery can reach 50 percent charge in less than an hour via a 3kW charger, and 0-80 percent charge takes three hours and 40 minutes. To maintain sustained high speed, the motor has a ram-air cooling system. To harness the power the TVS X is built on a precision-cast aluminium chassis called the Xleton. TVS says it is 2.5 times stiffer than conventional scooter frames.
On the features front, the X comes with three ride modes – Xtealth, Xtride, Xonic, and a 10.25 -inch touchscreen console. The infotainment system is called PlayTech, and allows riders to watch videos and play games when the scooter is stationery. The navigation system is called the NavPro, and has an EV-specific routing algorithm. There’s even ‘Therapeutic audio’ – a collection of nature sounds to soothe your nerves on the morning commute! There’s also the TVS Xhield – a collection of security features including geofencing and crash alerts.
Lots of exclusive stuff awaits the buyers, starting with the First Edition Package, which costs Rs 18,000 for the first 2,000 customers. Owners will also have access to TVS X Club Concierge Service, which will allow them to book tables at restaurants, movie tickets and sport events. Even the customer service desk is separate for TVS X owners, and each customer will also get a personalised metal card.
TVS has ventured into uncharted territory here, and there isn’t any other electric scooter that’s quite like it. We will let you know more when we get to ride it, of course!
