Royal Enfield underestimates the demand for the Himalayan 440

Royal Enfield has temporarily stopped the bookings, because the demand for the Himalayan was so excessive that six months of production capacity has already sold out. Royal Enfield had high hopes for the 440, and they knew that it would sell in large numbers, however, they underestimated the demand and are now scrambling to catch up.

Royal Enfield’s priority is to complete existing deliveries as soon as possible, instead of increasing the waiting period. They haven’t specified when bookings will resume, but they said that bookings will resume once they have the additional capacity to produce the motorcycle. They stated that the response for the product was more positive than they thought.

The Himalayan 440 was launched on September 2, 2026 — a version of the Himalayan that retains the previous 411’s old-school flavor. Starting at a very affordable price of ₹2.29 lakh, it gets the air-cooled 443cc single-cylinder, long-stroke engine, which debuted in the Scram 440. It makes 25.7PS and 34Nm, and sends it to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox, unlike the five-speed in the 411. It retains the half-duplex split-cradle frame, albeit an enhanced version. It is available in three colours – Nelong White, Sela Black, and Mustang Brown.
