Mercedes-AMG’s electric performance halo, the Concept AMG GT XX, is showcased in India at the newly opened Mercedes-Benz Studio in Gurugram. The show car itself isn’t new to the world; Mercedes-AMG unveiled it globally in Affalterbach back in June 2025. What’s arrived in Delhi NCR is a technology preview of what AMG’s next generation of high-performance EVs, built on the AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA), could look and drive like.

Finished in what Mercedes-AMG calls sunset beam orange, the Concept AMG GT XX follows the brand’s “sensual purity” design language. The silhouette is a dynamic fastback with a double-bubble roof and a sharply raked windscreen — and, notably, no rear windscreen at all. At the back, six circular, deep-red taillights sit recessed into the sidewalls, a detail meant to add a sense of depth.

The aerodynamics carry AMG’s boldest claim: a drag coefficient of 0.198, which the brand says matches that of a soaring eagle. Sections of the bodywork can also light up, using what AMG calls MBUX Fluid Light Paint — an electroluminescent finish that works by running a small current through electrically conductive paint layers, and can be used to communicate the charging status of the car.

The wheels hold the concept’s most unusual piece of engineering: active aero elements. Each hub houses its own self-contained system with a generator, actuator and battery. When activated, five aeroblades open around the rim’s edge, channelling cooling air straight to the brakes and back out again — a patented world first.

Inside, the AMG GT XX debuts a material AMG says is a first for the automotive world: LABFIBER Biotech Leather Alternative. Made using biotechnology, the brand claims it looks and feels like genuine leather but is twice as strong and has lower thermal conductivity, built from a mix of vegetable proteins, bio-based polymers and recycled AMG GT3 racing tyre! The orange-finished interior door handles use a related material, LABFIBER Biotech Silk Alternative, engineered to replicate spider silk — AMG says it’s produced by harvesting silk proteins from genetically modified bacteria and is fully biodegradable.

The exterior speakers, used for the synthesised driving sound and pedestrian-protection warnings, are integrated into the headlight housings. At the rear, an MBUX Fluid Light Panel packs in over 700 individually programmable LEDs for a 3D-pixel effect, capable of showing anything from an animated AMG logo to the car’s current state of charge.

The AMG GT XX runs three axial flux motors paired with a high-performance battery, together producing more than 1,360PS of peak output. The motors sit inside High-Performance Electric Drive Units — one up front, two at the rear — with each motor getting its own silicon-carbide DC/AC inverter. AMG claims a top speed of over 360kmph and roughly 400km of WLTP range added back in around five minutes, aided by an average DC charging power of over 850kW. AMG has been clear that the CONCEPT AMG GT XX isn’t headed to production as-is — it’s a rolling demonstrator for tech destined for future AMG.EA-based models.
