Homegrown two-wheeler motorsport is all set to get a major boost as the much-awaited Indian Superbike League (ISBL) has been announced. The league promises to provide “an organised platform to develop motorcycle racing talent” within the country. The fact that more than 400 riders have already signed up for participating in the ISBL highlights the demand for a formal, structured racing championship for two-wheelers.
The brand-new, FMSCI-sanctioned league will follow a franchise-based model featuring multiple motorcycle classes, namely Rookie, Female riders, Amateur and two different Pro classes. Each franchise will have to compete across all classes, which should ensure the maximum number of seats for prospective riders.
The inaugural season is being planned to be held towards the end of 2025. As per the latest update, races are scheduled tentatively in three rounds across Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune-Mumbai. Moreover, Ducati has come onboard as an official motorcycle supplier for the new league, ensuring top-notch equipment is accessible to the riders.
As per the organisers, FMSCI and other concerned parties, the ISBL intends to develop a structured pathway for budding and professional riders alike, technicians and support crews by helping them upgrade their skills and technical know-how. This will help them in obtaining experience and exposure necessary to give them a shot at breaking through into international events.
By providing a professionally managed, well-equipped and safe racing environment, ISBL can set the foundation of a homegrown racing ecosystem capable of opening new career pathways for local talent. It has also been stated that the ISBL intends to eventually compete in quality and stature with homegrown two-wheeler racing series of other countries, such as the British Superbikes and All Japan Road Race Championship.
