Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e, the first plug-in hybrid Maybach in the country. It is available only in the four-seat configuration and is limited to 30 units. It brings updated styling, more power, and more tech to the table, read on for complete details.

Let’s start with how it looks, and the first thing that will catch your attention is the grille, as it is 20 percent larger and is now LED-lit, with illuminated Maybach lettering and illuminated star on the bonnet. The headlights are new and larger, with three-pointed-star DRLs and rose gold highlights. The lower air dams are also slightly tweaked and get a lot of tiny Maybach logos. At the sides, it rides on 20-inch forged alloy wheels with a floating three pointed star and the Maybach logo on the D-pillar is also lit. At the back, it gets LED taillamps with three-pointed stars inside them, just like the new S-Class. The light show on this car is crazy too, as it can not only project a Maybach logo on the ground on approach, the headlamps projects a really cool animation on the wall too.

Before stepping in, the first thing you’ll notice are illuminated Maybach lettering on the door sills, climbing in, you are greeted with a whole lot of screens, a 12.3-inch driver’s display, a 14.4-inch infotainment screen, and a 12.3-inch passenger screen with privacy function. The centre console is also redesigned and is finished in piano black with vertical lines. An AR head-up display and AR navigation are also fitted. But, being a Maybach, the highlight is the rear. It has two individual Executive seats with heating, ventilation, and massage, a full-length center console and wireless charging, all part of Rear Comfort Package Plus. Entertainment comes from twin rear screens paired with a 31 speaker Burmester surround sound system, but if you wish to cut out the noise which filtered through its thick windows, there are two wireless headsets. The rear gates  continue to be automated, but what’s gone is gesture control, as that functionality is built into two small phone-like devices which control most of the cabin features. And yes, there’s also a fridge with two champagne glasses. Unlike the European car, the India version gets a collapsible spare wheel above the load floor.

Safety equipment includes 15 airbags, Pre-Safe Impulse and Impulse Side, and Level two ADAS under MB.Drive Assist. Guard 360° Plus covers theft prevention and intrusion detection. The car is also ready for Level three ADAS as it has all the hardware needed, but Mercedes has not included that as of now.

Powering the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e is a 3.0-litre inline six petrol engine, which produces 443PS and 560Nm. It is paired with an electric motor which bumps the output to 585PS and 750Nm. That output is transferred to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. It can sprint from 0-100kmph in 4.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. The battery is a 22kWh unit, which is good for 98km of pure electric range (WLTP-certified) with a top speed of 140kmph. There are three new drive modes: Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold, along with adjustable recuperation, including one-pedal driving. It comes with air suspension and rear axle steering of up to 10° as standard.

The car charges at up to 11kW on AC and up to 60kW on DC, and comes with MB.Charge public charging access. A home charger is supplied complimentary.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 580e is priced at ₹3.35 crore ex-showroom.
