Triumph has updated its 400 range of motorcycles in India, including the Speed T4, Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, and the Thruxton 400. Not only this, but the marque also announced the launch of the Tracker 400 in India, which is priced at ₹2.46 lakh ex-showroom.

Coming to the update, the biggest one is the new 350cc TR-series engine, which has been developed for the Indian market. This move comes after the Government of India announced specific GST rates for motorcycles under and above 350cc. While the company did not initially hike the prices of its 400 range, the 350cc engine was developed to slip the motorcycles under the 350cc bracket and give customers the benefit of reduced prices.

With this, the Triumph range is now priced even more aggressively in India. However, export models will still carry the 398cc platform. To keep prices in check, Triumph has also removed the immobilizers from the Indian models.

Range

The new 349cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine is a downsized version of the 398cc engine. Instead of opting for a smaller bore, Triumph has shortened the stroke of the engine from the existing 64mm to 56.1mm. This has allowed the engine to retain most of its power, with the drop being only about 2–3 PS across the entire range.

However, the loss of torque is about 5 Nm throughout the range; thus, Triumph has reworked some of the internals, including the crankshaft and balancer, to give the 350cc engine the necessary low- and mid-range grunt.

Range

There are no other changes to the motorcycles. The cycle parts, electronics, features, and tech all remain the same. In fact, the motorcycles will continue to feature the 400 badging across the entire range.

Now coming to the prices, the updated Triumph 400 range is priced as follows:

Triumph Speed T4 – ₹1.95 lakh

Triumph Speed 400 – ₹2.31 lakh

Triumph Scrambler 400 – ₹2.59 lakh

Triumph Thruxton 400 – ₹2.65 lakh

Triumph Scrambler 400 XC – 2.89 lakh

Range

While the Speed T4 sees no change in its price, the Thruxton 400 sees the maximum cut at ₹10,845. All prices are ex-showroom.
