With the Indian government’s push towards cleaner-burning, ethanol-blended fuels, motorcycle manufacturers in the country are taking steps to introduce models that can run on flex fuels. We have already seen flex-fuel motorcycles from Hero MotoCorp and Suzuki, and now Yamaha has launched the FZ Blue Flex in India, priced at ₹1.24 lakh (ex-showroom).
Flex-fuel motorcycles use specialised hardware and sensors to detect the percentage of ethanol in the fuel blend and adjust the spark timing and fuel injection accordingly. Ethanol blended fuels are aimed to significantly reduce tailpipe emissions, lower country’s crude imports and provide economic boost for agricultural crops used for biofuel.
With the introduction of the FZ Blue Flex, Yamaha has added flex-fuel capability to its popular FZ lineup in India. The Yamaha FZ Blue Flex is powered by the same 149cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 11.7PS and 12.8Nm paired to a 5-speed gearbox, and can run on ethanol-blended fuel ranging from E20 up to E85. Features include LED headlamp with integrated DRLs, telescopic front suspension, rear monoshock, dual disc brakes and single-channel ABS.
The Yamaha FZ Blue Flex is available in a Metallic Black shade and will be sold through Yamaha’s Blue Square dealerships in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
