Special Feature: Saloon Class – Volkswagen Virtus

Team Turbocharged
The Volkswagen Virtus is a class apart

The Volkswagen Virtus is a dominant force in the Indian car industry as the only European saloon car in the sub-20 lakh price bracket. It is characterised by its clean design, highlighting its Germanic heritage. It also manages to escape the design trend of DRLs dominating the front fascia, instead having proper, timeless, and elegant-looking headlamps, which humans generally tend to regard as eyes, thus giving the car a personality. And the expression on the stoic face of the Virtus is one of dependability.

This is all very apt, as the Virtus is a solidly built and reliable car, owing to its continental conception. The engineering of European cars follows a different mindset than the rest of the world. Thus, the Volkswagen Virtus, and, to be honest, all cars built on the all-conquering MQB platform and its offshoots from the Volkswagen-Audi Group (VAG), are generally way more robust than the rivals.

The most incredible fact is that VAG chose to reinforce this already extremely robust platform for our country. This was done mostly to deal with the poorer infrastructure prevalent throughout our road network. This new variant of the platform, MQB-A0-IN, is what underpins the Volkswagen Virtus. This is also what makes it a thoroughbred German sports sedan, up there with the best of Volkswagen’s portfolio, both current and historic. This is also why the Virtus has exceptional handling prowess, regardless of the terrain it is driving on. With this great roadholding also comes a high enough ground clearance, which means the Virtus is capable of venturing into the unknown with the SUVs of this world.

Another factor in favour of the Virtus is the Volkswagen badge affixed to the nose of the car. It is no secret that the Volkswagen brand is a premium brand in India. Therefore, with a Volkswagen Virtus parked on the driveway, the message is loud and clear. That one has arrived in life, and yet has decided not to follow the masses. It marks its owners as individuals against the hordes of drivers who choose the predictable path.

When someone is in a certain position in life, they often have to travel, more frequently for work, and sometimes for pleasure. The Virtus is the kind of car that makes both kinds of travel an enjoyable affair. In the city, it has one of the most comfortable interiors, with exceptional sound-deadening that keeps the hustle and bustle of the city at bay. That same insulation makes highway journeys a breeze and reduces fatigue massively. The Virtus is, without a doubt, one of the best mile-munchers on sale in India right now. This is a quality of European cars, as cars have always been required to cover vast distances in comfort throughout The Continent.
