Will Be Made For Latin American Markets

Nissan has unveiled the Kait entry-level SUV for Latin American markets. This is a compact SUV that will slot in under the current Kicks in Nissan’s range. Under the skin, it is the older-generation Kicks itself.

The Kait has an all-new exterior, with a very European look to it. The high bonnet and headlamps, rising window line and sloping rear glass all give it a very aggressive look. Inside, there are new air vents and gear selector, and the rear seats can split 60:40. A 7 inch digital instrument cluster replaces the Kicks’ part-analog setup, and a 9 inch Pioneer touchscreen makes up the infotainment. Expect Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and a 360 degree camera on the top-spec variant.

Nissan has not officially announced powertrain options, but the 1.6 litre four-cylinder powerplant that produces 110PS and 146Nm is already available in the Kicks. It will most likely be paired with a CVT automatic gearbox. Since this is Latin America, a flex-fuel version that can run on E85 will also be available.

Nissan has not mentioned anything about the Kait being exported anywhere beyond Latin America, but such a product makes sense for developing markets provided costs can be kept in check. There is no chance that a Kait produced in Brazil will be sold here. Besides, the Tekton is waiting in the wings, and that will occupy the exact space that the Kait would otherwise occupy, between the Magnite and X-Trail.
