Hyundai Verna 1.5 Turbo: Long Term Update – 7,081km

Is it a good chauffeur driven car?

We all know by now that the new Hyundai Verna scores high on the performance and features front, and it’s a proper driver’s car. And it’s true – unleashing the full 160 horses from its turbo-petrol motor on open roads is addictive! The same is true for playing around with all the features when standing still. Nobody talks about the rear seat in a driver’s car, but I feel the more spacious ones in the new Verna are a huge improvement over its predecessor.

I came to this conclusion on a recent outing with the Verna, with me sitting at the back and Ed behind the wheel. The first thing you notice when you step in the back is the seats are placed quite low, which takes some getting used to given the abundance of SUVs we have been driving recently. The Verna boasts the longest wheelbase in its segment and it shows with the space on offer. I am six feet tall and I had more than enough knee room and legroom to stretch out. Yes, the underthigh support could be better but I had no complaints about headroom.

What elevates the experience further are the well-bolstered seats and plush suspension setup which absorb most of the bumps on roads with great sophistication. You might feel slightly claustrophobic due to the all-black interior in the turbo-petrol variants, but the NA variants get lighter interiors. So, to answer the question, yes, the Hyundai Verna now can be your pick as a chauffeur driven car.

However, not driving the Verna Turbo is a missed opportunity, given that it is the most powerful sedan in its segment and everyone has been raving about its dynamics as well. So let’s see if I am able to trick Ed into trying the rear seat next time around!
