Aside from cosmetic updates expect new colours and additional features

One of Hyundai’s most popular models in its range, the i20 received a facelift in markets abroad back in May and now the India-spec model is all set to get one soon as the updated hatchback has been teased for the first time. This will be the first update to the India-spec i20 since its launch in November 2020.

The teased image only has an angle of the front end but it has previewed plenty of changes which are similar to the one sold abroad. For starters, the cascading front grille now has a mesh inspired by the 2023 Hyundai Verna. This is flanked by a revised set of LED headlights, with the front bumper also getting a minor touch up.

If we are going by the hatchback sold in international markets, it should also get a new alloy wheel design, a tweaked rear bumper and new body shade options. Inside, the upholstery should also get an updated theme, and the digitised driver’s display should also get a fresh layout.

The existing set of features that include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Bose sound system, connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control should be retained with additional kit expected. As far as safety is concerned we could also get ADAS added onto the mix.

Under the hood is where things will likely remain unchanged in the form of the 83PS 1.2-litre petrol and 120PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines. The gearbox options which include a five-speed manual and a CVT unit for 1.2-litre petrol as well as the seven-speed DCT for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol should be retained. Expect the i20 N Line to receive a similar treatment as well as retain the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine alongside the six-speed iMT and seven-speed DCT gearbox options.

The 2023 Hyundai i20 facelift should retail at a premium over the outgoing model that is priced from Rs 7.46 lakh ex-showroom onwards. It will rekindle its rivalry against hatchbacks in the country such as the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza.
