BMW, one of the leading luxury EV carmakers in India, is looking to solidify its position with the launch of its most affordable electric vehicle in the country, the iX1. Launched at Rs 66.90 lakh, ex-showroom, the iX1 comes to India as a CBU and its deliveries are set to commence in October 2023.
There are not many design elements to set the iX1 apart from its ICE sibling, the closed off kidney grille which gets ‘i’ badging and blue accents on the logo, being the major ones. Being the M Sport variant, it gets 18-inch M light alloys and large diffuser at the rear. Things are again familiar inside with the BMW curved display taking the centre stage and you also get dual-zone climate control along with massaging seats for front passengers.
The iX1 gets dual electric motors (one on each axle) that put out a combined output of 313PS and 494Nm. Powering the motors is a 66.4kWh battery pack, capable of providing a range of 447km on a single charge (WLTP-claimed). It can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 180kmph. The suspension duties are handled by M Adaptive suspension.
Charging the iX1 from 0-100 percent should take around 6.3 hours with the complimentary 11kW wallbox charger. It also supports 130kW DC fast charging which can top up the electric SUV from 0-80 percent in just 29 minutes.
The primary competitors to the BMW iX1 are the Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharged and C40 Recharge.
