Following suit of the Panemara, Taycan, and Macan, The 911 range is the latest to receive the modernising treatment from Porsche. The new 911 Carrera GTS will be the first road-legal Porsche to feature a hybrid system. Porsche claims that the new coupe offers a significant improvement over its predecessor. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 3.0 seconds (claimed), reaching a top speed of 312kph (claimed).
The 911 is a hybrid in a way you would not expect it to be, It has a T-Hybrid system with a newly developed electric exhaust gas turbocharger designed to cut down on turbo lag, this also comes with the added benefit of using a single turbo. The 911 also gets another electric motor integrated into the 8-speed- dual-clutch transmission that gives it an additional kick of 150Nm and 54PS, powering both motors is a 1.9kWh battery.
Under the hood, is a 3.6-litre boxer engine that puts 485PS and 510 Nm on its own, combined with the electric system it puts out 541PS and 610Nm (61PS over the predecessor). Also, the 911 now comes with rear-axle steering as standard.
The most prominent change in the exterior includes a refreshed bumper. All headlamp functions are integrated into the now standard matrix LED headlights of the 911. Nestled below are, five vertically arranged active air cooling flaps complemented by the the adaptive front diffusers in the underbody. These elements work by directing air catering to a specific situation. For example, when power requirements are minimal, the flaps remain closed, aiding in aerodynamics. In a high-performance demanding situation, the flaps open up, taking in more air. Additionally, the 911 also gets a refreshed rear end with considerable cosmetic changes.
The interior is redesigned too, the coupé variants get a 2 seater interior as standard. An optional 2+2 seat configuration is available at no extra charge. Porsche has also debuted a fully digital cockpit (with increased connectivity) and button start for the first time in a 911.
The standard 911 Carrera will continue to feature a mildly revamped 3.0-litre boxer engine with twin turbocharging that will put out 394PS and 450Nm of torque. The Carrera can be ordered as a Coupé or Cabriolet with RWD. The GTS comes in a Targa variant with AWD (also exclusive AWD), both models will go on sale together.
