Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Shining star or pricey constellation in the Samsung Galaxy universe?

Samsung has, as usual, gone with their “throw the kitchen sink at it” approach with their latest flagship, and it’s one hell of a smartphone. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is jam-packed with high-end hardware and equally competitive software, including AI!

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra packs a punch with its impressive features, but its Rs 1.29 lakh price tag might seem a tad high. The display stands out from every phone I have used, performing exceptionally well in bright sunlight thanks to its anti-glare coating and high brightness levels, and extremely low brightness levels as well for night-time use. The 6.8-inch screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Armor and offers a flat design, which I personally prefer over its predecessor’s curved edges.
The built-in stylus remains a welcome feature, making tasks like jotting down grocery lists a breeze. The device’s AI capabilities, such as live translation during phone calls and voice recording summaries, add a layer of convenience, at home and at the office. Battery life is decent and can handle my social media manager tasks throughout the day. Heavy users might need an additional charge though.

Performance-wise, the S24 Ultra shines with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and 12GB of RAM, handling tasks smoothly without overheating. However, the phone’s size and weight may be cumbersome for some users, and its sharp corners can be uncomfortable to hold for longer periods. One UI 6.1, based on Android 14, offers a familiar experience with some bloatware and proprietary features, but Samsung promises seven years of OS upgrades for longevity. The standout AI feature is Circle to Search, which allows for quick searches within any app using Google Lens technology.
The camera system, while impressive, sees a change with the removal of the 10x lens in favour of a 5x lens with a larger sensor. This alteration may disappoint some users, but overall image quality remains top-notch, especially with the addition of Ultra HDR support.

AI-powered photo and video editing features add some fun and creativity to the mix, though results may vary depending on the complexity of the edits. Despite its impressive array of features, the S24 Ultra may not justify its higher price tag compared to its predecessors, especially considering that many of its AI features are available on the less expensive S24 and S24 Plus models.
Overall, the Galaxy S24 Ultra dazzles with its top-of-the-line features and stellar performance, creating a smartphone experience that stands out from the crowd. However, this cutting-edge device comes with a price tag that reaches the summit of the smartphone landscape. If budget is not a concern and you seek the absolute best Android smartphone available, your search might just end here.
