It is an appetiser to M Performance thrills from the Bavarian brand and is the sportiest X4 on sale in India

The folks at BMW may have shelved the X4 in India earlier this year, but the carmaker has brought the SUV-coupe back and with some extra zing! By that we mean the X4 M40i being launched at Rs 96.20 lakh, ex-showroom. No prizes for guessing the zing factor here as the M40i brings a modest slice of M Performance thrills to the X4 instead of going hardcore with the X4 M Competition performance variant.

So, what do you get with the BMW X4 M40i? For starters, what already made the SUV-coupe snazzy with its sloping roofline has had its sporty stance enhanced by M-specific additions. They include the front twin kidney grilles, roof rails, skid plates and ORVMs finished in gloss black. Complementing all these changes are the sporty 20-inch Jet Black M light alloy wheels,

Inside, much of the dashboard layout is familiar to the standard X4, but you get carbon fibre inserts, sports seats and M-specific seat belts. Key features continue to include a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a 12.3-inch driver’s wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, tri-zone climate control and connected car tech.

Under the hood you get a 3.0-litre twin-turbo six cylinder petrol engine pushing 360PS and 500Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. All this is enough for the X4 M40i to sprint to 100kmph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph. Straightline speed isn’t everything as the revised steering rack, adaptive suspension, M Sport differential and bigger brakes balances things out with sporty handling dynamics.

As expected of a sporty M Performance model, the BMW X4 M40i will be available in limited numbers only and can be booked only at the BMW Online Shop. Considering the X4 is already part of a niche segment in India, the X4 M40i makes things even more exclusive in the country. The closest rival to the sporty SUV-coupe includes the Porsche Macan.
