Carrying the Redmi 12 5G’s legacy forward

The Redmi 12 5G was one of the best options if you were in the market for a budget 5G smartphone. The new Redmi 5G carries that legacy forward with a few important upgrades notably in areas of display, camera, performance, software and battery.

In terms of design, the Redmi 12 G feels like a premium smartphone thanks to the crystal glass back design, colour-matched brushed aluminium surround and chrome rings around the camera lens.
The 6.79-inch FHD+ LCD display is one of the largest in its segment. A highlight is the adaptive refresh rate upto 120Hz that helps maintain a balance between performance and battery life. With a peak brightness of 550 nits, it is legible even in bright outdoors.

Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS operating system keeps it upto date with the newest Android features. It is powered by Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE processor which offers ample performance for everyday usage as well as light gaming. The base model comes with a 6GB + 128GB configuration which is a good starting point given its budget constraints.

The rear main camera now has a 108MP lens, more than double that of its predecessor. It gets a large sensor which helps deliver good sharp images even in low-light conditions. It also gets a 2MP Macro camera with a 15MP front camera.

It gets a 5,030mAh battery that offers enough charge for the phone to last over a day with moderate usage. A highlight is the 33W fast-charging brick bundled with the phone. Fully charging the phone takes less than one and a half hours.

The Redmi 13 5G takes the game further for budget smartphones besides carrying on the Redmi legacy of being fantastic VFM phones.
