Yamaha has decided to step into the burgeoning Indian electric scooter market, and its challengers are here—called the Aerox E, which is a performance-oriented model and the EC-06, which is focused more on everyday practicality. Prices have not been revealed as of yet, but we expect that information to come through soon enough. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at these two new electric scooters from Team Blue.

The Aerox E is powered by an electric motor producing 9.4kW (12.8PS) and 48Nm. Yamaha has opted for dual removable batteries of 3kWh capacity. There are three riding modes as is the norm–Eco, Standard, and Power–with an additional ‘Boost’ function. There’s also a reverse mode, and a claimed range of 106 kilometres. The Aerox E gets all-LED lighting comprising dual LED Class D headlamps, LED turn indicators and an LED tail lamp. There’s a large colour TFT screen with turn-by-turn navigation. The Y-connect mobile app connectivity provides further options, including a Multi-Information Display (MID), as well as maintenance reminders and the last parked location. The Aerox-E gets front and rear disc brakes and single-channel ABS for enhanced safety.

The other one is more regular—called the EC-06, it is based on the River Indie, and thus shares most of the specs with it. It is powered by an electric motor that can generate a maximum output of 6.7kW (9.1PS), while the 4kWh battery gives it a claimed range of 160 kilometres. Just like most electric scooters, it has three riding modes as well as a reverse mode. The EC-06 also comes with dual disc brakes front and rear. There’s a coloured LCD display, and LED headlamps and tail lamps.
While Yamaha has declined to provide any further details, we do expect them to reveal the prices soon enough.
