The Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid has been launched in India. Priced at ₹1,44,800, ex-showroom, the Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is now the flagship of Yamaha India’s FZ range of 150cc motorcycles. It costs ₹10,000 more than the regular FZ-S Fi and ₹7,800 more than the FZ-X.
The Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid comes equipped with a new integrated starter-generator (a segment first). This starter-generator enables silent starts and also assists acceleration, while providing the motorcycle with a start-stop system. The motorcycle also gets traction control, a 4.2-inch colour TFT instrument console featuring smartphone integration via Bluetooth and turn-by-turn navigation. The front indicators are now integrated with the fuel tank extensions and the fuel lid now remains attached to the tank when it is opened. The motorcycle is available in two shades: Yamaha’s signature Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey.
The Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is powered by Yamaha’s tried-and-tested 149cc single-cylinder engine, which also powers the rest of the FZ range of motorcycles. The engine is now OBD-2B compliant and generates 12.4PS and 13.3Nm. It gets a disc brake upfront with single-channel ABS and drum brakes at the rear. Standard forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear do suspension duty.
Priced in the 150cc premium commuter segment, the Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is set to compete against similarly priced motorcycles from other manufactures such as the Bajaj Pulsar N150, TVS Apache RTR 160, Suzuki Gixxer, Hero Xtreme 160R, and the Honda SP160 to name a few. However, the integrated starter motor generator and the start-stop system should give the Yamaha an edge in terms of convenience and fuel economy over the competition.
