It will slot below the EV6 in Kia’s electric SUV lineup
It has barely been a week since Kia debuted the production-spec Kia EV9 and the carmaker has already unwrapped its latest electric offering in the form of the EV5 concept. It is an electric SUV that will sit below the EV6 and already boasts some interesting things for the production-spec model.
At a glance, you’ll notice a lot of familiarity between the EV5 and its larger sibling, the EV9 as both SUVs have that boxy, yet aggressive design philosophy. Nevertheless, the EV5 does stand out with a shorter rear quarter. Also, at the front, the clean fascia and upright nose are complemented by LED DRLs that blend with the bodywork. The commanding presence of the EV5 is accentuated when you look from the sides with strong character lines, squared wheel arches as well as chunky wheels. The rear on the other hand is quite simple compared to the rest of the SUV with wraparound LED tail lamps being the stand out bit.
Inside, like most modern Kia models, the EV5 concept’s cabin is clean, and minimalist with quite the airy dashboard area and a large curved display on top of it making up the driver instrumentation and infotainment systems. The futuristic bit comes in the form of the funky steering wheel design as well as how the seats look. Speaking of seating, they can swivel, which means easier ingress and egress as well as the opportunity to have a nice picnic on a weekend getaway. This is also helped by a cool table setup at the back.
Under the hood, detailed specifications are yet to surface, but we know that it’ll be an all-electric offering. Also, it is based on the E-GMP modular architecture like the EV6 and EV9.
Expect more details on the Kia EV5 to surface once it hits production later in China this year. A global debut should follow soon after, with an India launch likely towards 2024.
