• Here is your first look at the eighth generation BMW 5 Series

Also, the all-electric i5 has been confirmed

We have been longing for a new iteration of the BMW 5 Series and now our prayers have been answered. The Bavarian marque has just released the first teaser of the eighth generation 5 Series ahead of its debut this year, and have confirmed plenty of exciting firsts.

The most important first for the new 5 Series will be the fact that it’ll get all-electric propulsion for the first time in the form of the i5. In addition, there will also be a hardcore electric M Performance version added to the mix. Speaking of powertrains, ICEs will live on as there are plug-in-hybrid engines as well as 48v mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines on offer.

While the teaser image keeps things relatively well hidden there are certain clues on the design. The most obvious cues are up front with the unique lighting setup compared to its predecessor. Also, you’ll notice the outline of the traditional kidney grille.

We’re yet to have a look at the cabin, but BMW has confirmed a loaded feature list. A key party trick includes BMW’s Curved Display that will run on the latest BMW Operating System 8.5.

October is still some ways away, but expect more details on the next-gen BMW 5 Series to surface by then. Currently, BMW retails the 5 Series in India at prices ranging from Rs 65.40 lakh to Rs 68.90 lakh, ex-showroom. Considering that the 2023 5 Series will make its global debut in October, expect India to get it sometime around 2024. It will rekindle its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz E Class, Audi A6, and Volvo S90.
