• The Pravaig DEFY is a new Indian electric SUV player

It is bold, packed with features and gets a nice balance of performance and range

After a long period of teasers, Indian EV start-up, Pravaig Dynamics is aiming to leave a mark in the electric SUV segment with the launch of the DEFY SUV at Rs 39.50 lakh, ex-showroom. For Pravaig’s first proper attempt at making an electric vehicle it boasts some pretty impressive feats inside and out.

The main talking point is undoubtedly under the hood, as it packs some serious performance. A PMSM electric motor pushes 408PS and 620Nm, with a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 210kmph. It is also claimed to have fast charging capabilities that can juice up the vehicle from zero to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

On the outside, it gets an edgy body while still keeping things clean thanks to the flush-fit door handles. Some notable bits include a steep slope for the rear windshield as well as sleek lighting front and rear. There’s also a Veer Edition that removes a lot of the panels and gets a camo livery to make things rugged. But this model has been made with the Indian army in mind and talks are ongoing for a potential tie-up.

As bold as it looks on the outside, it's futuristic on the inside with an interesting mesh design for the AC vents. It also packs some cool tech such as a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, connected car tech and dual sunroofs which comprise a small one for the front passengers and a panoramic unit for the rear seat occupants. It also gets ADAS adapted to Indian traffic conditions.

Bookings for the Pravaig DEFY are open for a token amount of Rs 51,000 and deliveries are slated to commence by Q3 2023. The DEFY aims to take on German electric SUVs such as the BMW iX and the Mercedes-Benz EQC that have similar specifications as well as the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Kia EV6 from a pricing standpoint.
