• BMW i4 electric sedan launched at Rs 69.90 lakh

The CBU unit will be available in eDrive 40 variant and can be booked online with deliveries commencing from July

BMW India has launched the all-electric i4 sedan in India. The EV comes in eDrive 40 trim. It is India’s first electric midsize luxury sedan and offers a best-in-class range of up to 590km per charge. The four-door sedan bears the resemblance to its internal combustion counterpart, the 4 Series sedan. It is available in Mineral White, Black Sapphire and Skyscraper Grey colour schemes.

The interior flaunts two digital screens, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The user interface is supported by BMW’s latest iDrive 8 package and gets over-the-air updates.

Features of the electric sedan are 17 speakers Harman Kardon sound system, automatic climate control, smartphone integration with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reverse parking camera, heated seats and grips. Safety features include eight airbags, ABS, traction control, cornering brake control, hill descent control, stability control, tyre pressure monitor, crash sensor and more.

The eDrive 40 sports one motor, powering the rear wheels only. Power and torque figures are 250kW (340PS) and 430Nm respectively. BMW claims a 0 to 100kmph mark in 5.7 seconds.

It comes with 80.7kWh battery pack. On a full charge, the i4 eDrive 40 has a range of up to 590km. The i4 will also benefit from a regenerative braking system. It takes about 8.25 hours to fully replenish the battery using an 11kW charger that comes along with the car or 83 minutes (10-80 percent) via 50kW DC charger and 31 minutes (10-80 percent) via 205kW DC fast charger.

For now, the car will not have a direct rival either, being one of the luxury electric sedans to come to our shores, besides the significantly more expensive Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.
