The Triumph Scrambler 400 XC is a more trail-friendly version of the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and is priced at ₹2.97 lakh ex-showroom. The letter XC is usually an abbreviation for cross-country, which generally denotes the terrain-traversing capability of a machine and that is the case here as well as the Scrambler 400 XC comes with a few choice off-road focused modifications to imbue it with superior performance off the tarmac. Amazingly, this model is currently only being offered for sale in India, though we expect it to reach other markets soon enough as it has been caught testing in Europe alongside the Café Race based on the Speed 400.
The list of changes on the Scrambler 400 XC begins with the eye-catching new wire-spoke wheels in a cross-spoked format, identical to the new optional wheels on the Royal Enfield Himalayan. These wheels enable the fitment of tubeless tyres while retaining the signature shock-absorption capability of wire-spoke wheels—essential when bombing down a trail. The tyres have also been changed—the Scrambler 400 X comes with MRF REVZ but the Scrambler 400 XC comes with non-radial MRF Zapper Kurve tyres. This is not a downgrade as bias-ply tyres offer better off-road performance at the cost of some extra deformation on the road.
Other notable changes include a high-mount front mudguard (also available as an accessory on the Scrambler 400 X), a colour-coded flyscreen (offered as an accessory as a transparent flyscreen on the base model) and a pair of colour-coded hand guards (standard fitment on the regular bike though comes only in black). An aluminium sump guard is standard fitment along with engine bars and all these rugged additions are topped off by a headlight grille (once again, all of the above are available as accessories on the Scrambler 400 X). No changes have been made to the engine, which develops the same 40PS and 37.5Nm.
