It is an all-electric equivalent of the GLE SUV

The Mercedes EQ range of electric vehicles is set to get bigger in India as the carmaker has confirmed the EQE SUV will go on sale on September 15. This isn’t to be confused with the EQE sedan as it is the electric equivalent of the E-Class sedan. The EQE we’re getting on the other hand is an electric version of the GLE SUV. This is the fourth vehicle from the Mercedes-Benz MEA platform alongside the EQS and the EQE sedan and the EQS SUV.

Looking at the design, the EQE follows the Mercedes EQ philosophy of a smooth body as well as a black front panel replacing what would have been a front grille on the GLE, Aside from that, most of the silhouette resembles the GLE.

While we are yet to know what variants are coming to India, the model sold abroad comes in two flavours: regular and AMG, with the regular getting 350+, 350 4MATIC and 500 4MATIC trim levels, and the AMG coming with 43 4MATIC and 53 4MATIC+. Powertrain options are identical to the EQE sedan starting at 292PS for the 350 and ending at 408PS for the 500. For the AMG versions, they deliver 467PS and 687PS for the 43 and 53 respectively. The 53 4MATIC+ can do 0-100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 240kmph with an optional AMG Dynamic Plus pack.

In terms of range, the standard EQE SUV can reach up to a WLTP-claimed 547km with the help of a 90.6kWh battery pack, whereas the AMG versions can cover up to 488km on a single charge.

As far as features go, it’s got all the bells and whistles gills which include an MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system, as well as ADAS features like Attention Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Speed Limit Assist. There’s also a rear-steer system, which provides up to 10 degrees of steering angle on the rear axle.

In India, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is expected to compete against the likes of Jaguar I-Pace and the BMW iX.
