The Punch EV will be built on a completely new EV-only platform dubbed Acti.ev

One of the most-awaited EVs, the Tata Punch EV has finally broken cover. The bookings are now open for Rs 21,000 on the Tata website. It will be built on a new, EV-only platform, the Acti.ev. This enables the Punch EV to have a very specific EV-only feature – a frunk, i.e. a front trunk apart from a conventional rear cargo area.

Details are scarce at the moment, but we know that like other Tata EVs, the Punch EV will come in two versions – a regular one accompanied by a long-range model. It will be offered in five different colours and five trim levels – Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered+.

Tata has not revealed any details about the pricing, but we have learned a few things about the new platform itself. This is a layout and battery-agnostic platform, variable of being configured as FWD, an RWD and of course, an AWD. This opens up possibilities for RWD EV sportscars and AWD EV hatchbacks, among other configurations. Tata said the platform is also capable of utilising conventional battery architecture and prismatic cells among others. The new platform is a really exciting bit of news from Tata, we can’t wait to see what else spawns from it.

Once launched, the Tata Punch EV will have no direct rival in the marketplace.
