Bharat NCAP, India’s own crash test body, became operational earlier this year and the results of the first crash tests are out. It is only fitting that the first-ever crash test results are for two SUVs from an Indian carmaker, with the Tata Harrier and Safari both securing a full five star crash test ratings.
Speaking of the numbers, both SUVs scored a healthy 30.08 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 44.54 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, earning them both an overall five star rating. Except for the marginal protection for the driver’s chest, the SUVs offered good protection in other body areas in the Front offset deformable barrier test. Impressively, the SUVs received a perfect score of 16/16 in the Side movable deformable barrier test.
The Tata Harrier and Safari also scored a similar rating in the Global NCAP earlier this year. They were among many other cars that Bharat NCAP started crash testing December 15 onwards, so expect a lot more ratings to be announced in the coming days.
