Xiaomi has recently unveiled the most powerful iteration of its electric sedan SU7, the SU7 Ultra. The powertrain of the all-electric Xiaomi SU7 Ultra hypercar consists of two V8s and one V6s. Xiaomi has decided to call their electric motors V8s and V6s. A single V8s motor, the bigger one, is capable of cranking out 578PS and 635Nm of torque. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra produces a combined power output of 1,548PS. With power figures being higher than the Bugatti Chiron, the SU7 Ultra can run 0-100kmph in 1.97 seconds and hit the 320kmph mark in 5.96 seconds. Top speed limited to 350 kmph. Xiaomi also mentions a braking distance of 25 meters from 100kmph to a complete stop.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is considerably bigger than the SU7 Max, flaunting more aerodynamic panels and a huge spoiler. The Xiaomi hypercar weighs in at 1,900 kg. That isn’t a feather-light figure. Even so, it is lighter than competitors like the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT which it aims to topple. Xiaomi is also gearing up to take the SU7 Ultra to the Nürburgring. The Chinese mammoth aims for the SU7 Ultra to be the fastest 4-door car around the Green Hell. The current EV record holder is the Volkswagen ID.R. As for 4-door electric cars, the Porsche Taycan is the current crown-bearer. Beating the legendary German carmaker wouldn’t be an easy task for Xiaomi.

The Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi EV’s first product, is positioned as a “full-size high performance eco-technology sedan” and to make it stand out from its competitors, Xiaomi has developed five core EV technologies :  E-Motor, CTB Integrated Battery, Xiaomi Die-Casting, Xiaomi Pilot Autonomous Driving, and Smart Cabin.

The Xiaomi SU7 is available in 2 variants, the SU7 and the SU7 Max. The SU7 gets a single motor rear wheel drive setup which puts out 299PS and 400Nm of torque. It drives for a claimed range of upto 668km of a full charge and, does the 0-100kmph sprint in 5.28s with the top speed being 210kmph.

The Xiaomi SU7 Max which was showcased in India delivers 673PS and 838Nm of torque which propels the car from 0-100kmph in a blistering 2.78s and tops out at 265kmph. It gets a 101 kWh battery with an estimated range of 800km. In the braking front, the car is able to stop from 100kmph in a distance of 33.3 metres.

Electric cars have opened the door to vehicle manufacturing for many tech companies, with big names like Apple and Sony having declared their intentions too. But the Chinese phone maker Xiaomi shocked everyone last week when details surfaced of the SU7. Details of the car were revealed when Xiaomi applied for a sales licence from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The SU7 is a four-door car, with the images suggesting the car may have large storage spaces, owing to the electric platform. The car will be available in three variants; the base, the Pro and the Max. The base variant has a single rear motor, which puts out 295PS of power and can take the car to a top speed of 210kmph. On the other hand the Pro and Max get a dual-motor setup for the AWD platform producing 663PS and is limited to a top speed of 265kmph

Images reveal that the car may house ADAS tech with the higher variants housing ADAS sensors above the front windshield. The car may also have active aerodynamics, specifically an active rear wing, to handle the aforementioned high speeds.

The SU7 will be contract-manufactured by BAIC; the company that also manufactures Mercedes-Benz vehicles in China, and the battery technology will be sourced from BYD; the largest EV manufacturer in the world.
The SU7 will begin production in December of 2023 and go on sale in 2024, against EVs like the Tesla Model 3, the BYD Seal, and others.
