The Land Rover Defender OCTA has been launched with prices starting from ₹2.59 crore ex-showroom. For those who feel the “base” model Defender OCTA is not rare or special enough, there’s the Edition One, which is available only for the first year of production and costs a premium of ₹20 lakh over the “normal” one. Just in case you are wondering “but there’s already a Defender with a V8 engine” then read on as we elucidate what differentiates the Defender OCTA from the Defender V8.

While the Defender V8 makes use of the venerable AJ-V8, refined through the years, the V8 in the Defender OCTA has a different pedigree. It is the S68 V8 from BMW, with 4.4-litres of capacity, thumping out 635PS and 750Nm (800Nm with launch control enabled) courtesy of twin-turbochargers, among other things. The most powerful production car to bear the Defender nameplate, the Defender OCTA is not just a pavement prowler, as it has a 28mm elevated ride height, 68mm wider stance and enhanced underbody protection. Total ground clearance stands at scarcely believable 323mm.

The Defender OCTA hits 100kmph from a standstill in just 4.0 seconds. The 275/50 R22 (33” for the Imperials, not the Stormcloaks) tyres are the largest-ever fitted to a Defender, as are the 400mm brakes. Inside, the occupants will be cocooned in comfort thanks to the ‘Immersive Body and Soul Seat’ technology that apparently enhances front-seat occupants’ experience, and there are six wellness programmes that can help enhance mental and physiological wellbeing (we don’t understand the place for something like this in the Defender OCTA, but good on Land Rover for offering it).

Considering the performance on offer and the price it’s available at, there’s not much that can come close to the Defender OCTA in terms of value for money. It’s hard to think of a car that is five times the cost of most 2BHK apartments in Tier 2 cities as a value proposition, but such is the world we live in, and cars like the Defender OCTA, which doesn’t take itself too seriously, we feel make the world a better place.

Jaguar is ending production of its popular two-door sportscar, the F-Type. The British car maker has also announced that the last F-Type produced at its Castle Bromwich facility will join the prestigious Jaguar Heritage collection, exactly 50 years after the last Jaguar E-type ended production. This milestone marks the end of an era for Jaguar’s iconic models while heralding the beginning of a new chapter for the British marque.

The last F-Type, a convertible powered by a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine and finished in ‘Giola Green’, mirrors the design of the final 5.3-litre V12 engine powered E-type Series III Convertible produced in 1974. This historic F-Type will be entrusted to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust where it will join its E-type predecessor. Both vehicles will be showcased in special events and activities.

Launched in 2013 as a convertible, the F-Type was Jaguar’s first two-seat sportscar in nearly 40 years. The coupe version followed suite and was launched in 2014. Jaguar has produced 87,731 units of the sportscar since 2013, and the model will remain available until early 2025.

Bentley is all set to unveil the fourth-generation of the Continental GT next month. It will be the first ever Bentley to use the new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain. It swaps the W12 for a V8 hybrid with more power and torque. And yes, we’ll miss the W12. Unforgettable!

The new V8 hybrid is a 4.0-litre plug-in-hybrid(PHEV) that pushes out around 782PS and 1000Nm with its latest generation chassis technology for exceptional dynamics akin to its past generations. This hybrid V8 has a range of 80km which contributes to the power figures and torque.

Aston Martin DB12, Ferrari Roma, and Porsche 911 will compete head-to-head with the Continental GT.

Lamborghini is all set to take the wraps off the new Huracán replacement, currently code-named as the Lamborghini 634. The High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) is set to debut later this year and will boast a twin turbo V8 engine. This will be coupled with a three motor electric system and the 8-speed dual clutch gearbox derived from the Revuelto optimised for the new model.

As we bid goodbye to the 5.2L NA V10 engine from the Huracán, Lamborghini says that the new engine is an effort to deliver performance and driving emotion that is superior to the current Huracán range. The twin turbo V8 that features a displacement of 4.0 litres will put out 800PS between 9,000 and 9,750rpm reaching a maximum engine speed of 10,000rpm. It also puts out around 730Nm of torque. The Lamborghini 634 is able to achieve figures that are akin to thoroughbred racing engines due the perfect integration of the electric unit with the combustion engine. The rear electric system housed between the combustion engine and the dual clutch gearbox is capable of generating high torque and power values, a maximum of 300Nm and 149PS respectively at 3,500rpm.

While it is easy to drown in a sea of numbers and power figures, driving pleasure is of prime importance too! Lamborghini aspires to give the 634 a unique character by defining its sound, one that roars at higher revs, the effects of which will also be felt in the chassis.

The launch of the new 634 will also aid Lamborghini in the ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ program that is leading Lamborghini towards the progressive electrification of their range, the inception of which was in early 2023 with the première of the Revuelto and later the Urus SE in April 2024.
