The Made-in-India Nissan Magnite compact SUV has crossed the 2,00,000-unit sales milestone. This figure represents both domestic as well as export sales cumulatively. The Magnite is manufactured at Renault’s (earlier jointly owned by the Renault-Nissan alliance) plant in Chennai and is truly a world-class product which adheres to Nissan’s ‘One Car, One World’ philosophy. It is exported in both LHD and RHD guises as per the company’s ‘Make in India, Make for the World” strategy. The export operations have now been expanded from 20 to over 65 global markets.

Launched in 2020 and updated extensively last year, the Magnite is aimed at urban buyers and is based on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-A+ platform. It has been offered with naturally-aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines while also offering the choice between manual, AMT and CVT gearboxes. Last year’s facelift thoroughly revamped the interior and the features list of the Magnite, bringing it in line with contemporary consumer demands. The Magnite boasts over 55 safety features and a 4-star GNCAP rating. A government-approved CNG retrofit kit has also been launched recently. Customers opting for the naturally-aspirated engine and manual gearbox equipped Magnite can specify the CNG kit at the dealer level, which will then be fitted at a government-authorised fitment centre.

Amidst rumours surfacing of Nissan exiting India, the company has staunchly defended its commitment to the Indian market and has conclusively dispelled such hearsay. On the contrary, Nissan has confirmed that a 7-seater MPV, which will share its platform with the Renault Triber, should be launched in Q1 of 2026. Furthermore, an all-new 5-seater midsize SUV is also expected to be launched in 2026. Likely to come with a design inspired by the full-size Nissan Patrol SUV, the midsize SUV is also expected to spawn a 7-seater variant, which should be launched some time in 2027.

Nissan Magnite EZ-Shift: First Drive Review https://turbocharged.in/nissan-magnite-ez-shift-first-drive-review/ https://turbocharged.in/nissan-magnite-ez-shift-first-drive-review/#respond Mon, 09 Oct 2023 06:30:25 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=4693 The Magnite automatic becomes even more accessible with the AMT. How is it to drive though?

The Nissan Magnite has been a popular compact SUV primarily for its pricing and features which lead to it being a fantastic VFM proposition. However, the Magnite lacked one key variant which has slowly been gaining popularity. Customers have been warming up to entry-level-automatic variants for the convenience they offer in the city. That changes with the new EZ-shift variant which marries the base NA petrol motor with a new AMT gearbox. Being a relatively simpler gearbox, the AMT should enhance the Magnite automatic variant’s VFM quotient but how is it to drive?

Despite being a new variant, there is nothing to differentiate between the new EZ-Shift variant and other Magnite variants. It does bring in a new blue and black dual-tone colour option but that is not exclusive and will be available on other variants too. It will even be available in the new Kuro limited edition variant. We don’t mind it though as the Magnite has always been a sharp dresser.

The interiors remain unchanged too and it continues to impress in the features department with the top variants offering a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

Previously, if you wanted an automatic transmission equipped Magnite, you had to opt for the more expensive turbo-petrol powertrain which came with a CVT. The new EZ-Shift variant offers a 5-speed AMT gearbox with the more affordable 999cc naturally aspirated motor. Like the manual variant, this three-cylinder motor offers the same 72PS and 96Nm.

As far as AMT powertrains go, this one impresses with its smooth shifts. There is a caveat, however. The gearbox takes a tad too long to upshift or downshift. While that is a trait typical of AMTs, it does take the joy away from enthusiastic driving. Thankfully the gearbox gets a manual mode.

Also, compared to its turbocharged sibling, the naturally-aspirated motor offers its performance higher up in the rev range so the AMT does have to hold on to gears longer. However, this AMT gearbox delivers where it is supposed to. In city traffic, where most of us spend 90 percent of our driving time. Here, there is no denying the convenience offered by an automatic gearbox.

Nissan has always priced the Magnite variants competitively and while prices for the AMT variants are not out yet, we expect the Japanese carmaker to not break tradition here and price the AMT variants well.

With the new AMT gearbox, Nissan fills one crucial gap in the Magnite’s portfolio, that of an affordable automatic variant. The Magnite has always been a good value-for-money proposition with its combination of space, features and efficient powertrains. The new EZ-Shift variant enhances its value-for-money quotient and makes the Magnite a compelling alternative for those looking for an automatic budget SUV.

Nissan Magnite 1.0 Turbo: Fleet Wrap-up – 26,859km https://turbocharged.in/nissan-magnite-1-0-turbo-fleet-wrap-up-26859km/ Thu, 14 Sep 2023 11:53:41 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=4292 The Nissan Magnite is truly a compact SUV for all seasons

If you lived through the turn of the century, you would have witnessed everything around you compress in size but at the same time offer substantially more value than its previous generations. Take the cellphone for example. Starting from being something the size of a brick with physical buttons, the cellphone transitioned into this slim form transcending from physical inputs into touchscreen, voice and even face recognition. A cellphone today has evolved into a lot more than your television, computer and landline ever was. All that power and more in the palm of your hand. It’s fascinating but not surprising.

It’s the same case with SUVs. These have shrunk/evolved into compact SUVs, with dimensions that make it easy to negotiate the chaos that we call roads and even park in tight spaces. A shining example is the Nissan Magnite. The Magnite not only offers the SUV experience, it does away with the issues that come with one, like heavy steering, lazy handling and a cumbersome turning radius. The Magnite is as easy to drive as a hatchback thanks to its light controls and compact dimensions. It is surprisingly easy to park too, thanks to the smaller turning radius and the 360-degree camera – a segment first!

Besides its ease of driving, I have loved the fact that every control is easily within reach of the driver, without compromising on cabin space. The Magnite is spacious enough to seat five passengers comfortably while luggage space is decent as well. It is feature packed — the touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and there is a wireless charging pad conveniently placed under the AC controls.

The marriage of its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor and CVT gearbox is one of the best I have seen on cars in India. The powertrain is a peppy unit and masks turbo lag quite well. This means you can dart through traffic with the same ease you would with a high-performance naturally aspirated motor. It is efficient too when you feather the throttle pedal.

The Magnite also impresses with its other SUV-esque traits like offering fantastic ride quality. Post monsoon the roads have degraded quite a bit and with the Magnite I do not have to bother slowing down to crawling speeds for potholes the same way if I were driving an old-school SUV. It also impresses with its ground clearance, which coupled with its small overhangs, means I can go exploring around Pune, which I did. The Nissan Magnite has been one impressive companion, and I am sad to see it go back.
