Additionally, Maruti Suzuki has also indicated its plan to add 5 lakh units of capacity in FY 26-27, which comes in line with the company’s plan of ramping up production. Currently, Maruti Suzuki manufactures the compact Brezza and the mid-size Victoris SUVs at the Kharkhoda facility. The foundation of this facility was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August, 2022.

Maruti Suzuki has launched the e Vitara electric SUV in India at an introductory starting price of ₹10.99 lakh ex-showroom. Bookings for the e Vitara can be made at NEXA showrooms or through the official website with an initial booking amount of ₹21,000. This price is when the battery is offered separately as a service with an effective running cost of ₹3.99 per kilometer. Maruti Suzuki is also offering 60 percent assured buyback value after three years. Buyers will also benefit from the eight-year warranty on the vehicle as well as the battery pack. Furthermore, they will get one year of complementary charging and a free home charger installation worth ₹50,000. That’s a lot of goodies on offer from Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti

The e Vitara is built on the new HEARTECT-e platform. The flat-floor architecture of the e Vitara allows for more cabin space while having the battery pack neatly sit under the floor. The e Vitarac measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,640mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm.

The e Vitara comes with two options of battery pack capacity. The 49kWh battery powers the motor which drives the front wheels, produces 144PS and the larger 61kWh battery pack has the motor generate 174PS. Torque output for both the packs are the same at 193Nm. The battery pack also has a thermal management system which allows the e Vitara to function at temperatures ranging from -30 degree celsius to 60 degree celsius. Maruti claims a range of 543km from the 61kWh battery pack while the 49kWh battery pack comes with a claimed range of 440km.

Maruti

In terms of safety, the e Vitara comes with Level 2 ADAS. Standard safety features include seven airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system and an e-call function.

Maruti

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella. We have driven the e Vitara and came back impressed.

When the country’s largest car maker gears up to launch its first ever EV, you know this isn’t merely a new electric vehicle going on sale. And that’s because Maruti Suzuki is always known to dominate segments it is present in, whether traditional ones or new-age ones like EVs. So, before we even saw the e VITARA in the flesh, we knew there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes action going on at Maruti Suzuki, besides readying the product itself. And that includes setting up of a charging network that’s as robust as Maruti’s unmatched dealer network. Of course, it is no secret that Maruti is aiming to ensure that buying the e VITARA feels as natural to prospective buyers as walking into its dealerships to buy one of its ICE-powered cars, and thus ensure buyers have to never worry about charging or range anxiety.

VITARA

And to experience its charging network, Maruti Suzuki invited publications to drive the e VITARA in various legs, as part of its ‘India Goes Electric’ drive. Four e VITARAs were flagged off to head East, West, North and South, and interestingly for us, TURBOCHARGED was part of ‘Team Srinagar’, meaning we drove the e VITARA in some of the most beautiful parts of India! Our leg was short, as we were to drive from Srinagar to Jammu which is a distance of about 250km, but this was arguably a very important leg, as it involved driving in some of the northern-most parts of the country. Our journey started off from Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealership (JamKash Vehicleades) in Srinagar, in peak winter, but the warm welcome by the staff there ensured we were perfectly comfortable.

VITARA

The e VITARA had been plugged in to the 60kW DC fast charger at the dealership before we got there, meaning we were ready to hit the road as soon as it was charged fully. It’s worth noting that Srinagar is one of the northern-most cities of India but not only does Maruti Suzuki have a Nexa showroom there, besides its Arena dealerships, but it has also installed a fast charger there already! Given the e VITARA’s ARAI-certified range of 543km per charge I knew we wouldn’t need a charging stop on our way to Jammu, but I sure was curious about its real-world range since we are yet to conduct a real-world test. As I started driving, the SUV offered a sense of familiarity given its progressive throttle responses and smooth yet powerful acceleration, even reminding me of powerful turbocharged petrol engines with its linear grunt.

VITARA

Air temperatures were in single digits but the e VITARA’s 61kWh battery pack seemed unaffected by the cold weather. Progress was rapid as the highway was devoid of traffic, which also gave me a chance to make the most of the e VITARA’s 174PS motor. Jammu sits at a lower altitude than Srinagar, meaning you’re driving downhill most of the time, and this allowed me to make the most of the e VITARA’s regenerative braking. It was also getting a lot of attention on the road, as many seemed puzzled by the fact that this was a Maruti Suzuki with a green number plate! The winding sections of the highway allowed me to experience the e VITARA’s planted feel and confident handling, with the suspension letting me attack corners with gusto, while the steering offered ample feel and feedback.

VITARA

Maruti Suzuki’s ‘e For Me’ app, which will list all of its own chargers besides thousands of third-party fast chargers, told me that the Nexa dealership in Udhampur that was on my way to Jammu has a DC fast charger installed and functional already! I still had around 60 percent charge left thanks to the e VITARA’s regenerative braking and excellent battery management system, but couldn’t resist a quick pit stop to test the charger. The staff at Nexa, Udhampur (J&K Vehicleades) was very excited to see the e VITARA in the flesh, and besides checking it out, they also had lots of questions for me about the SUV! With a quick top-up done I headed to the Nexa dealership in Jammu, which has a DC fast charger in place just like Srinagar and Udhampur.

VITARA

Now what’s really worth noticing here is that I was in some of the northern-most parts of the country, and not in the heartland, but across the 250km I had driven in Jammu and Kashmir Maruti Suzuki has three DC fast chargers installed already. I’m told the manufacturer is installing thousands of DC fast chargers like these across India, at its own dealerships and service centres besides shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and the like, even before the e VITARA hits showrooms! And as the country’s largest car maker, this proactive approach is sure to help Maruti democratise EVs. I had only experienced a teaser of the manufacturer’s plans on the front as part of Team Srinagar on the India Goes Electric drive, but it is obvious Maruti Suzuki is aiming to dominate the midsize electric SUV space by leveraging its ultra-wide network of touchpoints already!

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that it has exported 3.95 lakh passenger vehicles in 2025, which is 21 percent higher than that of 2024 in the passenger vehicle segment. For comparison, Maruti Suzuki exported 2.05 lakh units in 2021. This makes the manufacturer the leading exporter of passenger vehicles for the company.

In the year 2025, Maruti Suzuki India has exported 18 of its models to over 100 countries. The car maker also began with the export of its first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the eVITARA, starting in August 2025 and over 13,000 units have already been exported to 29 countries, primarily in Europe.

Maruti Suzuki exports various models from India, including the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Celerio, Grand Vitara and Ertiga. The exports serve markets across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Japan, making the car maker one of the key exporters of passenger vehicles from India.

]]>
Fresh from winning the country’s most prestigious automotive award, the Indian Car of the Year, Maruti Suzuki’s latest SUV, the Victoris has joined our fleet of long-term test cars. What makes it interesting is the fact that the Victoris is Maruti Suzuki’s second offering in the midsize SUV segment that’s been teeming with options for a very long time now. And while many might wonder why launch a second product in the same space when Maruti Suzuki sells the Grand Vitara already, not many realise this is a very clever move by the country’s largest car maker. That’s because while the Grand Vitara (which has been doing well for Maruti Suzuki) will continue to be sold through Maruti’s more premium, Nexa showrooms, the Victoris is being offered exclusively through its Arena chain of dealerships.

Victoris

This two-pronged strategy is thus allowing Maruti to attract prospective buyers walking into both dealerships, thereby helping it increase its footprint in the midsize SUV segment. More importantly, Maruti Suzuki has been keen on being seen as a leading SUV maker and the Victoris is yet another step in the direction. Having driven it a couple of months ago – and coming back impressed – I was keen on spending more time with the Victoris, and our long termer is the AllGrip version. Now, this makes things interesting for me, because I was mightily impressed by the abilities of the Victoris at the media drive where Maruti had set up a dedicated off-road course to help us assess the SUV’s abilities.

Victoris

For now, the SUV is merely functioning as my daily driver though, and is being used for in-city commutes only. I’m also liking the interiors a lot, as the seats and cabin layout look very appealing and very premium, though I am concerned about the beige-hued seats turning brown. The 10.1-inch touchscreen looks crisp and bright, and I’m particularly liking the new interface it gets, which looks a lot better and more appealing than the one on older Marutis including the Grand Vitara. But while the audio quality is good courtesy the 8-speaker Infinity audio system with the Dolby Atmos 5.1 channel surround system, I wish there were more customisation options for tuning the output to my liking.

Victoris

The electrically adjustable driver seat in the Victoris is a welcome addition, though I wish there was a memory function for it too – every time someone else from the team drives the Victoris, I’m left fumbling to find my sweet spot all over again! Ours is the automatic version with a 6-speed torque converter automatic, with a set of paddle shifters, though I wish there was a Sport mode for the gearbox as well, for quicker shifts. More on the powertrain in the next report!

It wouldn’t be wrong to say the Maruti Suzuki e VITARA was one of the most anticipated launches of 2025. It was showcased at the Auto Expo at the start of the year, and as Maruti Suzuki’s first ever EV there was a lot of buzz surrounding it. A string of delays meant we had to wait for a long time before we got behind its wheel, and interestingly, our first driving experience was on foreign soil – the United Kingdom to be precise, which is the first of 100 countries to receive the made-in-India e VITARA! The experience gave us a taste of what the electric SUV is like to drive, but nothing like testing a car on home soil, right? So here we are, telling you about what the Maruti Suzuki e VITARA feels like to drive on Indian roads!

VITARA

What gets your attention first is the e VITARA’s unconventional design (you certainly cannot miss the way Maruti is spelling the name out too!). The design is also quirky, but in a good way. Its modern design cues lend the e VITARA a very un-Maruti like appearance and also help it look futuristic. Heck, it looks more European with its sharp lines and creases, and also looks very fresh. To put things into perspective, while Mahindra has gone the bold way with the BE 6 and Hyundai a little too conservative with the Creta Electric, Maruti seems to have found an interesting route to take on the design front.

VITARA

The e VITARA looks muscular from the front thanks to the sharp lines on the hood, while the headlamps are sleek units with Y-shaped DRLs. The grille looks conventional, which is a good thing, while the bumper gets thick plastic cladding. Its 2,700mm wheelbase has the e VITARA look long, and short in height from the sides, but there’s plenty of design cues that help it look more SUV than hatchback, like the black cladding and 18-inch wheels (the UK-spec car had 19-inch wheels). The flared haunches above the rear wheels help in adding muscle too, and (thankfully!) there’s conventional door handles, at least on the front doors, and not ‘flush-fitting aero handles’, while rear door handles are hidden into a rather thick C-pillar.

VITARA

The rear end is simple yet appealing looking. The Suzuki logo and e VITARA badge sit in the centre, right below a bar that connects the tail lamps, but the bar is not lit. Overall, while slightly shorter in height than I would like, the does e VITARA look very appealing. Intriguingly though, unlike other born-electric EVs while it does sit on a dedicated EV platform called Heartect-e, neither does the e VITARA get a frunk, nor does it have its electric motor on the rear axle. Also, while it may look small, the e VITARA is 4,275mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,640mm tall, meaning it isn’t exactly small in size.

VITARA

Step inside and you’re welcomed by a cabin that looks refreshingly new, and also very premium. It also feels very premium thanks to the quality of materials. The dashboard design is unconventional but with some very interesting elements. Then there’s the floating centre console which reminds of Volvos and BMWs, and is a first for a Maruti. The soft-touch brown leatherette on the dashboard’s central rib helps in adding to the premium quotient, along with the silver-grey air-conditioning vents. The steering wheel is flat at the top and bottom and is nice to hold, though the driver display looks disproportionate to the infotainment screen. Both screens get a new user interface which is simple and easy to read.

VITARA

Thankfully, there’s physical controls for air-conditioning and a rotor for adjusting volume. The wireless charger sits well within reach, but USB ports sit under the floating centre console, making them hard to reach. The drive selector rotor is unique in terms of its design and operation, but easy to get used to. Cabin space is impressive too, be it shoulder room at the front, or kneeroom and legroom in the second row. The e VITARA thus has ample space, besides which seats all round are supportive and comfortable. Additionally, the driver seat is powered too. This is easily the best cabin we’ve seen from Maruti Suzuki till date, which speaks volumes about the efforts gone into creating it. Moving on, Maruti has not released the full feature list, but our test car had 360-degree view, a single pane sunroof, an Infinity audio system, six airbags, Level 2 ADAS and more.

VITARA

While final specifications are not out yet, the India-spec car should be the same as the one we drove in the UK. And that means we are sure to get the 61kWh battery pack but only with a front wheel drive setup. Maruti is also sure to offer the 49kWh battery in India. The 61kWh battery pack powers a single electric motor that puts out 174PS, and claimed range is 543km per charge, which makes the e VITARA very impressive on paper. That said, I was also impressed by how progressive the power delivery is and how smooth and progressive throttle responses are – there’s no instant shove. Rather, you are eased into the acceleration, but with a sense of urgency which feels good.

VITARA

You get three driving modes, Eco, Normal and Sport, and there’s enough distinction between the three. The cabin is also reasonably quiet at normal speeds but tyre noise and wind noise are audible at higher speeds, and cabin insulation could thus be better. You do not get paddle shifters, owing to which toggling through regenerative braking levels is a bit of a chore, as you can only do so through the touchscreen and only when stationary, though the single button the centre console does help. Given the setup and claimed numbers it should be interesting how much the e VITARA can manage on a single charge. More importantly, Maruti is setting up its charging network on a war-footing, and when you have the country’s largest car maker do that, you know that is a big deal.

VITARA

Overall, the e VITARA has a lot going for it, something I can say with conviction, having driven it in India and the UK. It gets a lot of the basics right, though some might complain about it feeling too plain. Prices are expected to be announced soon and we expect the e VITARA to be priced aggressively to appeal to Maruti’s traditional target customers and newer sets of buyers as well – this is the country’s largest car maker’s first ever EV after all!
