Mahindra has made the XUV300 sub-four metre SUV a little bit more accessible as the carmaker has launched two new base-spec variants. The first is the W2 variant, priced at Rs 7.99 lakh, while the other is the W4 variant for the TurboSport series, at Rs 9.29 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). Here’s the variant breakup of both versions of the XUV300:

VariantXUV300 PetrolXUV300 TurboSport PetrolXUV300 Diesel
W2Rs 7.99 lakh (New)
W4Rs 8.65 lakhRs 9.29 lakh (New)Rs 10.20 lakh
W6Rs 9.99 lakhRs 10.49 lakhRs 10.99 lakh
W6 AMT Rs 10.69 lakhRs 12.29 lakh
W8Rs 11.49 lakhRs 11.49 lakhRs 12.99 lakh
W8 (O)Rs 12.59 lakhRs 12.99 lakhRs 13.91 lakh
W8 AMTRs 13.29 lakhRs 14.59 lakh

Looking at the table above, the new base-spec W2 makes the XUV300 Rs 66,000 cheaper than the former base W4 variant. On the other hand, the W4 TurboSport undercuts the W6 by Rs 1.20 lakh.

So, what do you lose out in the W2 variant? Well, you don’t get roof rails, piano-black door trim finish, a front scuff plate, an electric sunroof, illuminated sun visors, a centre roof lamp, and a sunglass holder compared to the W4. On the other hand, the W4 now gets an electric sunroof across all three engine options which was earlier offered from the W6 variant onwards.

Mechanically, things stay the same with the option of a 110PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, a 130PS 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol and a 117PS 1.5-litre diesel engine. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on all three engines, with a six-speed AMT option offered on the standard 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel variants.

With prices ranging from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 14.59 lakh, ex-showroom, the Mahindra XUV300 getting a more affordable starting point should help it continue its rivalry against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, the Tata Nexon, as well as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
