Toyota is gearing up to launch its first EV in India, as hinted by a teaser shared on its official social media channels earlier this month. The electric SUV will be based on the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara platform, with minor design tweaks to differentiate it, including Toyota’s signature “hammerhead” front design. The Urban Cruiser EV will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s facility and retailed through Toyota dealerships.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV could be offered with two battery pack options: 49kWh and 61kWh. Globally, the model is offered with an all-wheel-drive option paired with the 61kWh battery pack, though this is unlikely to be introduced in India.

The 49 kWh battery pack has a claimed range of 344km and produces 144PS of power and 189Nm of torque. Meanwhile the larger 61kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of 543km, delivering 174PS of power and 189Nm of torque.

Globally, the Urban Cruiser EV offers a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and charging. Safety and driver assistance features include a Brake Support System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Additional features include a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Monitor. Volkswagen has recently shared a short teaser on its social media platforms, hinting at an upcoming SUV launch for the Indian market. This move signals the brand’s intent to expand it’s presence the premium three-row SUV segment in India, as it already has the Tiguan R line.

The Volkswagen Tayron is likely to be introduced in the sportier R-Line variant. The Tayron is expected to be launched sometime this year. It is likely to be priced in the ₹45–50 lakh range (ex-showroom), placing it firmly in the premium SUV category.

Globally, the Tayron is positioned between the Tiguan and the Touareg and is based on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform. For India, it is expected to be offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 201PS and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. VW is expected to continue with a petrol-only strategy in this segment.

In terms of features, the Tayron is expected to offer a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is also likely to get a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a premium 700W Harman Kardon sound system.

On the safety front, the SUV is expected to be equipped with nine airbags, ABS with EBD, and an ADAS suite, along with features such as TPMS, ESP, and an electronic parking brake.

The Volkswagen Tayron will rival models like the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Citroën C5 Aircross, and Hyundai Tucson. More details regarding variants and the launch timeline are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Škoda to launch the Octavia vRS in October https://turbocharged.in/skoda-to-launch-the-octavia-vrs-in-october/ https://turbocharged.in/skoda-to-launch-the-octavia-vrs-in-october/#respond Thu, 25 Sep 2025 05:30:00 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=15487 Finally, after months of waiting, Škoda Auto India has announced the return of the Octavia RS, one of the most desirable models from the Czech brand!

Škoda Auto India had been quiet about the launch of the new Octavia vRS for some time; however, today the company has finally revealed its plans, or, rather, given us a timeline for the new Octavia vRS launch. Yes, one of the most desirable cars from the Czech Republic is finally going to go on sale in India once again, with bookings starting from October 6, 2025. However, the deliveries will begin at a later date.

Škoda Auto India is planning to revive the vRS legacy, and there is no better car than the Octavia vRS to kick-start things. Soon after the Octavia launch, we can also expect to see another RS variant go on sale in India, possibly the Kodiaq RS. Škoda plans to capitalise on the current demand from enthusiasts who are keen on performance-oriented models from the Czech brand. The Octavia vRS will pave the way for other RS cars as well.

As for the Octavia vRS, the car coming to India is Czech-made, UK-spec car. It will feature the 2.0-litre TSI engine, which, by the way, is powered by gasoline; no hybrids here. This motor produces 265PS and 370Nm, making it the most powerful Škoda car on sale in India and also the most powerful Octavia vRS to date. It will come with a seven-speed DSG; however, we are unsure if the Indian-spec car will get Dynamic Chassis Control, which allows you to adjust the chassis, and as Škoda claims, makes the drive even more engaging. It is part of an optional package in the UK, but if Škoda can bring it to India, it would be much appreciated.

As for the pricing, we expect it to be in the ₹40 lakh to ₹45 lakh bracket, making it an expensive Octavia. However, we are sure enthusiasts who can afford it would make a beeline for it on October 6, 2025. Unfortunately, Škoda will only be bringing in 100 units of the Octavia vRS; however, with the love for the RS badge, Škoda might consider extending the 100-unit limit in the future.
