Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has formally announced its entry into off-road racing, marking a strategic shift in its motorsport direction in India. The company plans to gradually move focus away from track racing and expand into dirt-based formats such as rally, supercross and other off-road formats, reflecting changing customer preferences and growing participation in these categories.

The move comes after HMSI’s 18-year involvement in the Indian motorsport scene. Over the years, the company has played a key role in nurturing racing talent through initiatives like the Honda One Make Race and participation in national-level competitions such as the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship. It has also invested in rider development with advanced platforms, including the NSF250R Moto3 spec machine, while supporting Indian riders in international series like the Asia Road Racing Championship, Thailand Talent Cup and Honda Asia Dream Cup.

Honda

Off-road racing in India has been gaining traction due to its accessibility and wider appeal among enthusiasts, bringing in both amateur and professional riders. HMSI believes this transition will create more opportunities for rider participation and grassroots development in formats that are witnessing strong participation globally.

As part of this shift, the company is also evaluating the expansion of its product portfolio, with increased focus on adventure and off-road capable motorcycles tailored for Indian riding conditions, aligning its motorsport strategy with future market demand. With that said, we could expect Honda to bring in the CRF series motorcycles in India soon.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has announced the achievement of sales of five million Activas in Maharashtra over 25 years, which marks a major milestone for the brand in one of the major two-wheeler markets in India.

Honda says that the milestone achieved is fueled by the constant demand for the Activa across Maharashtra’s key markets like Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane and Navi Mumbai. These major cities continue to play a major role in the sales, where scooters are an important part of everyday mobility.

The Activa sales in the state have been backed up by a wide availability of dealer networks. Over 700 sales and service centres provide easy access and ease of use of the product for the customer.

Additionally, the strong resale value has contributed to its immense popularity. Honda says that the customers in Maharashtra view the Activa as a long-term investment, which provides a perfect balance between performance, efficiency and easy ownership experience. Launched in 2001, the Honda Activa remains one of the most sold and most trusted scooters in its segment.

Honda Shine 100 DX Review https://turbocharged.in/honda-shine-100-dx-review/ Sat, 21 Feb 2026 07:28:10 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=18064 Does it out-shine the rest in its class?

It has been a while since I swung my leg over a 100cc commuter motorcycle, but as it had to be, I was handed over the keys to the Honda’s smallest Shine, the Shine 100 DX, to experience how it feels to ride and live with a small-capacity commuter motorcycle. Commuter motorcycles hold a significant market share and offer a range of options with varying capacities. But the 100cc segment is what most buyers would look at, mainly because of the ease of use and lower running costs. Honda’s Shine 100 DX is the smallest Shine of the family, and well, it shows. The motorcycle carries a small footprint. The Shine 100 DX looks good for a commuter, with a neat and clean head lamp wrapped around a black cowl, metal fuel tank, plastic side panels and a plastic tail section. It screams commuter, every time you look at it.

Shine

The Honda Shine 100 DX does not come with any bells and whistles as you would expect, and Honda has kept things simple. You get an LCD instrument console that displays the required information in an easy-to-read layout. Honda has opted for halogen lighting for the head lamp, tail lamp and turn indicators. The left and the right switchcube are also basic, with the starter on the right, and the horn, head lamp beam and indicator switch on the left. The seat is wide and long enough to accommodate two adults with ease. If practicality was Honda’s aim while designing the Shine 100 DX, the Japanese manufacturer has absolutely nailed it.

Shine

Coming to the engine, the Shine 100 DX is powered by a 99cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which makes 7.3PS and 8.05Nm. The power is sent to the rear wheel via a 4-speed gearbox. The motorcycle is suspended on telescopic forks and twin shocks at the rear and rides on 17-inch wheels. It silently comes to life just at the touch of a button, thanks to the ACG (Alternating Current Generator). As you would expect from a Honda, it is a quiet engine, especially when idling. Since the Shine 100 DX is presented as a commuter, riding it in the city is where it truly shines.

Shine

On my daily commute to work and back home, the Shine 100 DX proved itself to be worthy. Starting with the smooth engine, which might not have serious numbers on paper, but does not fail to hold up against the swarm. The small footprint that I mentioned above is exactly what makes it very easy to filter through traffic. The 1,245mm wheelbase and the 103kg kerb weight also contributes to its docile road manners, and the modest 786mm seat height ensures an average Indian sits easily with his foot placed flat on the ground. The rider’s triangle makes sure you are seated comfortably throughout your journey. The first gear is short, which means you will be off the line quickly, and the second and third gears help you build speed. In the city, I found myself juggling between the second and third gears mostly. You can comfortably cruise at 60kmph with the engine showing no signs of stress. However, the motorcycle does reach speeds of 80kmph if you encounter a straight patch of road.

Shine

The ride quality of the Shine 100 DX is excellent. The suspension, which has been tuned with comfort in mind, does a great job of soaking up the bumps and small potholes on the streets. I also took the motorcycle on some twisted roads where it did not fail to impress. But judging it by its ability to lean into corners is like judging a fish by its ability to climb a tree. The only gripe I have is the drum brakes, which lack the braking power you would need for a daily commuter. A front disc brake, even as an option, would not have been a bad idea afterall.

Shine

While the Honda Shine 100 DX is a well packaged product and offers a comfortable riding experience, the brakes are a let down. However, if you are looking for a smooth and fuel-efficient 100cc commuter which is also reliable in the long run, the Shine 100 DX makes a good case for itself, considering its ex-showroom price of ₹71,746. All you have to do is mentally prepare yourself into planning your stops on the road, well in advance.

2026 Honda CB750 Hornet To Get E-Clutch https://turbocharged.in/2026-honda-cb750-hornet-to-get-e-clutch/ Sat, 10 Jan 2026 08:45:50 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=16934 The Honda CBR650R and CB650R has already been updated with the E-Clutch

The post 2026 Honda CB750 Hornet To Get E-Clutch first appeared on Turbocharged.

]]>
After updating the Honda CBR650R and the CB650R with the E-Clutch, the Honda CB750 Hornet is the next motorcycle set to receive the system. This makes the CB750 Hornet the third motorcycle in Honda’s Indian lineup to feature the E-Clutch technology. Globally, the Hornet becomes the fourth model to be equipped with the system, as the Rebel 300 sold overseas also gets the E-Clutch.

Honda’s E-Clutch system is not the fully automated Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) that the manufacturer offers on the Africa Twin adventure motorcycle and the Gold Wing tourer among others. The DCT system completely eliminates the use of a clutch while changing gears. The E-Clutch, however, still requires manual gear changes, but without the need to operate the clutch lever at any time. This keeps the riding experience engaging while reducing effort, especially in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

As for the launch timeline, the updated Honda CB750 Hornet is expected to make its debut in 2026, alongside the Honda XL750 Transalp. The Transalp is currently on sale in India but does not feature the E-Clutch system; it has a two-way quickshifter as standard. The updated CB750 Hornet is expected to command a marginal premium over the current ex-showroom price of ₹9.22 lakh.

Honda CBR500R Four Details Revealed https://turbocharged.in/honda-cbr500r-four-details-revealed/ Mon, 05 Jan 2026 08:54:52 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=16741 The four-cylinder sportbike is highly unlikely to reach Indian shores

The post Honda CBR500R Four Details Revealed first appeared on Turbocharged.

]]>
Honda first showcased the CBR500R Four and the CB500 Super Four at the CIMA 2025 show in China. However, the Japanese bike maker did not reveal any details about the motorcycles. In fact, the specific models were not seen at the Honda stand at EICMA 2025.

However, some of the details about the faired CBR500R Four have been leaked via a Chinese approval-type document, confirming its power, weight and important dimensions. The motorcycle will be introduced in the Chinese market first after which it will also be introduced in select global markets.

The CBR500R supersport motorcycle will be powered by a 502cc liquid-cooled in-line four-cylinder engine which produces close to 70.8PS and has a kerb weight of 189kg. The motorcycle is built on a steel chassis and uses an aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties are handled by upside down forks and a link-type monoshock, while braking duties will be performed by dual front discs with Nissin four-piston calipers and a single disc at the rear. The motorcycle will be shod with 120/70-section and 160/60-section at the front and rear respectively.

Honda has also added the second generation of its E-clutch system to the CBR500R. The first-generation of this tech is present on the CBR650R and CB650R, which are on sale in India. The E-Clutch allows the rider to change gear and even come to a stop without using the clutch lever.

Coming to the launch, Honda initially plans to launch the CBR500R Four and CB500 Super Four in the Chinese market. The motorcycles will be built at the Wuyang-Honda joint venture factory in China. However, if it will be produced for the global markets is still to be confirmed. Honda could also target specific global markets like Japan, US, UK and Europe. Considering the success of models like the Kawasaki ZX-4R and the CFMoto 500SR Voom in certain markets, it is a safe bet that the CBR500R Four will join them as well. Sadly, it is highly unlikely that Honda will launch it in India.

Honda’s Elaborate Car Plans for India https://turbocharged.in/hondas-elaborate-car-plans-for-india/ Fri, 31 Oct 2025 08:32:20 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=15859 Honda is planning to launch ten new cars in India, and seven SUVs are in the pipeline

The post Honda’s Elaborate Car Plans for India first appeared on Turbocharged.

In a move to strengthen its foothold in India, Honda Motor Company has announced a detailed plan for the Indian market, aiming to grab a bigger slice of the pie This elaborate plan includes ten new cars to be introduced, out of which seven will be SUVs. All of these cars will be out by 2030.

The Honda 0 ɑ (Alpha) SUV, displayed at the 2025 Japan Mobility show, is slated to be manufactured in India, and will be globally exported to other countries including Japan and rest of Asia. The ɑ SUV will share components with the Honda Elevate, which is already on sale in India, and is also exported to Japan. This should allow the Japanese manufacturer to have a quicker turnaround for a new product.

Honda plans to appoint a dedicated team for the cause, which will allow them to understand and plan the approach as to what the Indian customers look for. Out of the ten products Honda plans to add to its Indian portfolio, some will be global products, while others will be tailored according to the preference of Indian car.

To showcase the Indian manufacturing prowess and bring it up to the global stage, Honda foresees our country as a manufacturing and design hub for their products for both the domestic and international markets. While the whole plan will need a dedicated approach by the manufacturer, only time will tell how things shape up for the Japanese four-wheeler giant.

Honda’s CB125 Hornet is the brand’s latest offering in the 125cc sporty commuter segment, aimed to appeal to buyers seeking style. In this segment, we already have the Hero Xtreme 125R, Bajaj Pulsar N125 and the TVS Raider 125 locking horns, and with the CB125 Hornet, Honda is looking to grab a piece of the pie.

Hornet

At first glance, what caught my attention was the aggressive, naked streetfighter styling. The split dual LED headlamps, encased in a small housing, give it a big-bike feel, much like its elder sibling, the Hornet CB1000 SP. While the overall dimensions of the motorcycle are compact, the chiselled tank with side extensions makes it look big, though these come with their own set of problems—more on that later. From the rear, the bike looks sharp, further giving the entire package a stylish appeal. The design of the CB125 Hornet appears menacing and is sure to attract younger buyers seeking style.

Hornet

One cannot attract younger buyers without a decent amount of features, and Honda’s treatment of the baby Hornet in this regard has been generous. Apart from the all-LED lighting, the 4.2-inch TFT colour dash is a great addition. It gets Bluetooth connectivity for calls, music, messages and turn-by-turn navigation. The dash is quite legible, even in bright daylight. Apart from the speedometer, tachometer, and gear position indicator, it can also convey information like trip distance and distance to empty, which can be accessed by using the four-way directional buttons on the left switch cube.

Hornet

Powering the Honda CB125 Hornet is a 123.94cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that puts out 11.14PS and 11.2Nm, paired with a five-speed gearbox. For the suspension, you get USD forks, which is a first in its segment, and a monoshock at the rear. The baby Hornet rides on 17-inch wheels shod with MRF Zapper C tyres, though these are quite narrow, measuring 80- and 100-section at front and rear (except the Hero Xtreme 125R, the other two 125cc sporty commuters have the same section widths).

Hornet

Hit the start button, and the Alternating Current Generator (ACG) will silently bring the engine to life. The clutch action is light and the gears slot into place smoothly (but what else do you expect from a Honda?). The engine delivers its power in a very linear manner, making it very easy to manage, especially for newer riders. Speaking of commuting, riding the CB125 Hornet in Pune’s chaotic traffic felt like a breeze. The small footprint of the motorcycle meant an easy-to-manoeuvre experience.

The USD forks and the monoshock deliver a very stable and comfortable ride and soak up bumps, small potholes and undulations that the roads of Pune have to offer. While the power figures might not seem impressive on paper, it does allow you to make quick overtakes, thanks to the kerb weight of just 124kg. Speeds of up to 80kmph feel doable, but anything beyond that, and the engine begins to protest. Braking power is adequate, thanks to the 240mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a 130mm drum brake at the rear. Being six feet tall, I was constantly pushing myself further behind as my knees would hit the tank extensions, which is due to the compact dimensions of the motorcycle. The riding position is comfortable, and you will not be sitting in a very committed way while riding it.

Hornet

The Honda CB125 Hornet is a great choice for beginner riders and daily commuters who are looking for style and ride comfort. With the new taxation for motorcycles in place, the CB125 Hornet is now priced at ₹1.03 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a good choice.
