2025 Hero Glamour X 125 First Ride Review https://turbocharged.in/hero-glamour-x-125-first-ride-review/ https://turbocharged.in/hero-glamour-x-125-first-ride-review/#respond Fri, 22 Aug 2025 06:30:15 +0000 https://turbocharged.in/?p=15151 Hero MotoCorp’s most popular offering in the 125cc commuter segment gets a thorough overhaul

It’s exactly 20 years now since the Hero Glamour was launched as a stylish 125cc commuter motorcycle. Of course, we have seen it evolve significantly over the past two decades, in keeping with buyer demands, but the Glamour X 125 here is the motorcycle in its most premium avatar yet. What’s also worth noting is that while Hero launched the Xtreme 125R just over a year ago, positioned as a sportier 125, the manufacturer firmly believes there still exists a strong demand for a 125cc commuter motorcycle, but with a more youthful vibe to it, which is why, an all-new Glamour. Also, interestingly, the Glamour X 125 is powered by the Xtreme 125R’s peppy little motor and gets a bunch of segment-first features to add more zing to it. So, priced from Rs 90,000 ex-showroom onwards, is this still a workhorse?

The design is sportier now as you would expect, and a set of larger and sharper tank extensions help in adding more visual mass at the front. The headlamp gets H-shaped DRLs like some of the other Hero motorcycles, helping the front end look more stylish, while the windscreen is now a taller unit. So, most of the motorcycle’s mass is concentrated towards the front, while the rear half is a lot slimmer. The bike also has a taller and more athletic stance than its predecessor, partly courtesy its 18-inch wheels and partly thanks to its sharper lines. There’s also a more premium feel thanks to the new decals, the chrome garnish on the side panels and the fact that the Glamour X uses LED lighting all round. Fit-finish levels are decent, though quality of switchgear could be slightly better, and the switches could also offer a more tactile feel.

Like I mentioned, Hero has added a bunch of new features, and it now gets cruise control, panic brake alert, which basically has both turn indicators flash if you have to brake hard suddenly, three riding modes including Eco, Road and Power and a Type-C USB port, all of which are segment firsts. That’s not all though as you also get a colour LCD display instrument cluster with over 60 functions, including Bluetooth connectivity for call and SMS alerts, and turn-by-turn navigation too. This is a lot of kit for a 125cc segment and I’m compelled to think how motorcycles are heading in the same direction as cars, where manufacturers are constantly trying to outperform each other by offering more features.

The Xtreme 125R’s air-cooled engine is in the exact same state of tune here, which means you get 11.56PS and 10.5 Nm, and the engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. So, there is a familiar feel to the powertrain, especially with engine’s impressive power delivery and acceleration. A bigger highlight to me though is the engine’s refinement and how unstressed it feels even at high revs and highway speeds. At the same time the engine also offers excellent tractability at slow speeds, so riding through traffic at speeds below 30kmph in fourth gear, without any knocking, is easy. Gear ratios are also well-spaced and the fifth gear is tall enough to allow crossing the 100kmph mark on the speedometer. This is a powertrain that’s impressed a lot in the Xtreme 125R and it does not give you a chance to complain on the Glamour X 125 too.

Also worth noting is the fact that throttle responses are smooth and precise. And Hero MotoCorp tells us this is the first time in the world that a motorcycle with a kick starter has been equipped with Ride-By-Wire, which has helped it equip the Glamour X 125 with the three riding modes. There is a noticeable difference between the modes in terms of throttle responses and power delivery, and the jump from Eco to Road and Road to Power is big enough to be noticed instantly, as the Glamour X 125 runs three different engine maps. I also tried the cruise control function and it works well, adding to ease of sustaining speeds on open roads. But with that said, usability of cruise control on a motorcycle that’s meant to be ridden in stop-and-go traffic primarily, is a question mark.

The riding position is typical of a commuter with an upright stance, and Hero has also made the handlebar wider and reprofiled the seat to make it more comfortable, especially for the pillion. The Glamour X does not get gas charged shock absorbers at the rear, but the ride quality is very pliant as the bike soaks up broken roads very well, without unsettling the rider. The 30mm telescopic front forks also help on broken roads, along with the 18-inch wheels at both ends. The Glamour X also feels confident on the handling front, be it in a straight line at highway speeds, or around corners and feels light and agile, yet planted. Overall, the Glamour X 125 thus offers a good balance between ride and handling, as is required of a 125cc commuter motorcycle.

The Hero Glamour has been around for exactly 20 years like I mentioned at the start. But while it has evolved significantly, what has not changed about this new Glamour is that it still comes across as a light, nimble and comfortable commuter. The addition of new features has made it slightly more expensive, but its biggest highlight is that it still is an excellent workhorse in the 125cc segment!

Hero MotoCorp has launched the new Glamour X 125 at a starting price of ₹89,999 ex-showroom. The new Glamour comes with some elegant features, which are also the first in the 125cc segment in India. Features like ride-by-wire, cruise control, three ride modes, and a Panic brake alert system make the Glamour X 125 a motorcycle to look out for in the 125cc category. It also comes with what Hero is calling a Low Battery Kick Startability system, which we will soon tell you more about as we will be riding the bike tomorrow.

Powering the Glamour X 125 is the same engine that features in the Hero Xtreme 125R, and in the Glamour X it produces 11.5PS and 10.5Nm. Hero has tuned the cam profile and optimised gear ratios for better throttle response, while a new cam chain and balancer shaft aid NVH levels. It comes mated to a five-speed gearbox that sends power and torque to the 18-inch rear wheel. Telescopic front forks and twin preload-adjustable shock absorbers deal with suspension duties. The Glamour X also gets a full digital instrument console with a multi-colour LCD with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. It also receives all LED lighting setup. In terms of practicality, the Glamour X has an under-seat utility box to store two mobile phones, and a USB-C charging port.

The Glamour X 125 will be available in two variants, a Drum brake version, which is priced at ₹89,999, and a Disc brake variant, priced at ₹99,999. Bookings for the bike will commence tonight, with deliveries scheduled to begin at a later date.

Hero introduced the range of its next-generation products at EICMA 2024 and launched them a few months later at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. A week ago, we rode the first product from their latest lineup, the Xoom 125, and now we were in Udaipur to ride Hero’s second offering, the Xtreme 250R. The Xtreme 250R is set to compete in the super-competitive 250-300cc naked bike segment against rivals like the KTM 250 Duke, Suzuki Gixxer 250, Bajaj Dominar 250 and the Bajaj Pulsar NS 250. The Xtreme 250R gets a completely new chassis along with a new engine and seems to be loaded with a lot of firsts from Hero. But the question is, is it enough to take on the established competition? Let’s find out.

First look at the Hero Xtreme 250R, and you won’t be able to help but feel that the motorcycle looks big and sharp. It carries the typical aggressive streetfighter stance, and it carries a modern naked bike design language. The visual mass is focused towards the front of the bike, where the panels seem to be bulging towards the front, almost making me think of the Ducati Streetfighter (not in the way it looks but more design philosophy-wise). It looks sharp and chiselled from any angle you look at it; the low-slung LED headlamp looks beautiful and adds to the streetfighter attitude. The tank is a busy unit where floating panels wrap the tank around them and give it a multilayered look. The shrouds make the bike feel larger than it is while hiding the radiator and coolant tank inside them.

It is the side profile where the motorcycle manages to look the most striking, as all the dual-layered panels and curves are clearly visible from this angle. The tail carries a new H-shaped LED taillamp, which is very nicely integrated. Hero has certainly improved on the fit and finish levels of the parts and the bike manages to look and feel like a premium product. However, with so many overlapping plastic parts, one won’t be able to deny the possibility of rattles creeping in over time and even our test bike suffered from a minor buzzing from the front panels.

The rider’s seat is nicely cushioned, spacious and accommodating, thus granting you a comfortable perch. The riding position is leaned forward a bit as the flat handlebar is positioned low, allowing for a more aggressive riding style. The foot pegs are also positioned in a manner that you won’t feel cramped and will have a lot of space to move. The overall stance of the motorcycle is sporty but not too aggressive to make it uncomfortable and will be welcoming for riders upgrading from a smaller motorcycle.

The rectangular LCD display is easy to read and doesn’t obstruct the rider’s view. Apart from the normal information, it also displays information like lap timing, drag timing, battery voltage and fuel economy. It also has Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts and an eSIM-based Hero Connect that, with the help of an app, allows for connected features like vehicle tracking, topple alert, SOS alert and geofencing, among others. It also gets switchable ABS in the form of two different modes, namely Road and Track. Where the road has ABS fully activated, Track mode allows for ABS only on the front wheel with a delayed intervention.

The Xtreme 250R is powered by a new 250cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve DOHC engine that offers 30PS of power at 9,250rpm and 25Nm of torque at 7,250rpm. The engine has been tuned to keep both city commutes and fun-spirited highway riding in mind and that is clearly visible the moment you head out. The feel of the engine is refined without being monotonous; there is a distinct character to the engine that puts it somewhere between the refinement of a Japanese engine and the raw feel of a KTM 250 engine. The throttle response is crisp which, paired with good low-end torque, allows for easy ridability. I was able to pull the bike from as low as 16kmph in the third gear without much drama. The clutch action is light and the 6-speed transmission has smooth shifts which are precise as well. The engine has been tuned nicely and doesn’t feel stressed even at 100-110kmph and allows for effortless highway cruising. The bike has all the characteristics to be called a proper streetfighter.

What complements the beautiful engine is the brilliant handling dynamics of the Xtreme 250R. The 43mm upside-down forks and the rear gas-charged monoshock with 6-step preload adjustment have been tuned to give a lot of feedback and support the competent trellis frame. The motorcycle feels very nimble and quick directional changes come naturally. In fact, the motorcycle inspires a lot of confidence around the corners and you are able to push it hard. The sharp steering geometry adds to the overall agility of the bike. However, the 110/70-17 front and 150/60-17 tyres from MRF don’t do justice to the capable machine and struggle to grip in fast-flowing corners.

The Xtreme gets a 320mm petal disc with an axially mounted 2-pot calliper, and the rear is a 220mm disc. The brakes have been turned to give a more progressive feel and feel okay to be honest. I would have really appreciated a bit more bite, and it would have gone well with the overall sporty character of the motorcycle.

To summarise it all, Hero has made a product that is the right combination of aggression, aesthetics and performance. A motorcycle that would not only attract young college-goers but also a more mature audience. We rode the bike for more than 200kms and came out craving more saddle time. The biggest Xtreme is big in all the required aspects and with an ex-showroom price of ₹1,80,000 is a really impressive proposition in the 250cc class.

While Honda has been inching closer to Hero MotoCorp, the Indian giant is still the market leader, according to sales data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA)

Hero MotoCorp has held on to the title of India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer for a long time—while its arch-rival Honda has been inching closer, it is still Hero MotoCorp that rules the roost in sales numbers. According to figures published by FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations), Hero MotoCorp sold a total of 3,85,988 units, while Honda sold a total of 3,28,502 in the month of February 2025.

While both of these figures are a drop from the previous year, as well as the previous month, there’s no doubt that Hero MotoCorp still holds the number one spot on the sales charts of the Indian two-wheeler industry. Hero MotoCorp sold 4,12,378 units in the month of January 2025 as opposed to the 4,02,977 units moved by Honda.

Both manufacturers are pursuing every trick in the book to boost sales, which is not surprising, but the approaches couldn’t be more different. While Honda is focusing on bringing in OBD-2B compliance to their entire line-up, Hero MotoCorp is bringing in a slew of new models, which is something they did last year as well. Honda’s entire Indian two-wheeler line-up is now OBD-2B compliant, while boasting of the only E85-capable motorcycle on sale in India right now—the Honda CB300F flex-fuel.

However, Hero MotoCorp is launching vehicles that are stirring up a storm in social media circles, vehicles which have no real rivals, and vehicles that offer the best performance and technology to the Indian customers, and made Hero the company it is today. These models include the new and upcoming Xoom 125, Xoom 160, Xtreme 250R, Karizma XMR 250 and most notably, the Xpulse 210.

We can’t wait to see what this battle between the two giants will bring, but can safely say that when manufacturers fight, its the consumers who always reap rewards!

Ross Branch of Hero MotoSports Team Rally (number 46) fended off tough competition from the two Monster Energy Honda Team riders, Ricky Brabec (number 42) and Adrian Van Beveren (number 9). Branch finished just 10 minutes behind Brabec while pulling a 12-minute lead over Van Beveren.

Hero MotoSports is Hero MotoCorp’s motorsports division and has been participating in the Dakar Rally since 2017. 2024 has been the team’s best finish. But it was not all smooth sailing, because even though Ross Branch scored the podium finish, his three teammates retired from the race at various points.

The team started the campaign with a four-man team of Joaquim Rodriguez, Sebastian Bühler, Joan Barreda Bort and Ross Branch. As the rally began though, Rodriguez and Bühler suffered from crashes that took them out of contention. Barreda Bort too had to bow out later in the rally because of a mechanical issue. This meant that while Ross Branch was second overall, he had to fight without any backup from his teammates.

Even still, Branch rose to the challenge from the Honda riders, securing two stage wins. Dakar’s 8,000km of gruelling stages in the Saudi Arabian desert need the rider to be on a consistent pace, and Branch was able to do just that while fending off Van Beveren and threatening Brabec’s lead the entire time.

Hero MotoSports has been building on a strong foundation and has consistent improvement. We can only hope to see them on the top step of the podium next year!

If you remember this old motorcycling movie called Torque, you’ll remember there were a lot of crazy stunts, particularly of riders barrelling through fields and dirt roads on superbikes. The people behind the movie modified real dirtbikes to look like superbikes for those scenes. However, recently some videos have surfaced where some really brave people have been off-roading with Yamaha R6s and Suzuki Hayabusas, and that got me thinking.

The Hero Karizma XMR, despite being a supersport bike, has a really compliant suspension, something that comes in handy while traversing through the scarred landscape commonly referred to as Pune roads. I decided to take it one step further, and explore some unpaved roads around my place. Regular dirt roads were no match for the suspension, which soaked up the bumps with ease, so I upped the ante and went on a really rocky road I usually ride on my Impulse.

While it would have been easier on the dirtbike, it was not really difficult on the Karizma, which means Hero is acutely aware of the fact that the potential customer base of its current flagship may not necessarily be city-dwellers. I just wish Hero hadn’t made the turn indicator cancel button so ridiculously tiny that it takes multiple angry taps if you, like me always wear riding gloves. But that small niggle aside, the Karizma is one of the most comfortable sports bikes I have ridden in a long time.

The Karizma XMR’s suspension has already garnered widespread fame as a friend called me asking if he should plonk his money down for it as he has a bad back, a conversation I never expected to have with anyone regarding a sportbike!
