Hyundai India has revealed the Creta N Line ahead of its launch on March 11! As is the case with other N Line models, the sportier version of the SUV gets cosmetic updates along with small tweaks to the suspension, steering and exhaust.

The design updates to the Creta N Line over the standard Creta are fairly extensive, starting with a new grille and redesigned front and rear bumpers. You get 18-inch alloys with red brake callipers at the sides, and a longer rear spoiler, a sporty skid plate and dual tip exhausts at the rear. The shade you see here is an exclusive N Line colour called the Thunder Blue which comes with a contrasting black roof and red inserts all-around the SUV. The interiors will feature an all-black theme with red accents. Like the other N Line models, you’ll also get the N steering and gear-shifter.

It will be powered by a 1.5-litre T-GDi turbo petrol engine that is expected to be in the same state of tune as the standard Creta with outputs of 160PS and 253Nm. There’s good news for those who love to shift their own gears, the Creta N Line will be offered with a 6-speed manual along with a 7-speed DCT! Mechanically, the SUV will remain unchanged, except for a more stiffer setup for the suspension and reworked steering feel.

Once launched, the Creta N Line will be an unique offering in the segment but will face competition from the likes of Volkswagen Taigun GT, Skoda Kushaq powered by the 1.5 TSI engine and the Kia Seltos turbo-petrol variants.

It’s been quite a while since the Mahindra Thar has gotten any major updates, so for 2024, the carmaker has decided to launch a special edition of the SUV called the Earth Edition. With prices starting at Rs 15.49 lakh, the Earth edition is based on the top spec LX Hard Top variant. Here’s a look at variant wise prices (all prices ex-showroom):

Petrol MT – 15.40 lakh

Petrol AT – 16.99 lakh

Diesel MT – 16.15 lakh

Diesel AT – 17.60 lakh

The updates are mostly cosmetic with a new Desert Fury satin matte finish on the outside along with sand-dune graphics on the doors and rear fenders and Earth Edition badge on the B-pillars. Inside, the headrest too gets a dune finish and the seats themselves are finished in beige. You also get Desert Fury inserts on the AC vents, steering wheel and on the centre console. To make things interesting, each of the Earth Edition cars will get an unique VIN number starting from 1.

The two engine options include a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol (152PS and 300Nm/320Nm MT/AT) and a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel (132PS and 300Nm). Both engines can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Mahindra Thar competes against the Force Gurkha and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. That being said, the 5-door Thar is expected to launch later this year.

In case you are wondering why you need to know about Europe’s most affordable electric car, the Dacia Spring, is because this will be sold as the Renault Kwid EV in various markets, including India. Dacia Spring was first introduced in 2020 and sold in the Chinese and select European markets only.

The updated model gets a major design overhaul with a completely redesigned front fascia that borrows inspiration from the recently unveiled Duster SUV with its y-shaped DRLs. The headlamp like before is placed below in the bumper which also gets a unique mesh panel. The side profile looks familiar to the outgoing model. You pull-type handlebars, squared-off wheel arches and black cladding running across its length. At the rear, you again get y-shaped light elements connected by a gloss black panel and the rear bumper features a similar mesh pattern as the front-end.

The updated interior gets a 7-inch fully-digital instrument console and a 10-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The HVAC controls have been updated as well and the overall layout looks quite rugged. You also get ADAS safety tech with features like lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and emergency braking system.

Along with the earlier 45PS motor, you now also have a 65PS motor. The electric hatchback is powered by a 26.8kWh battery pack that allows a claimed range of 220km on a single charge. Charging from 20-80 percent with a 7kW charger should take around 11 hours while a 7kW wall charger is capable of doing the same in four hours. There’s also a 30kW DC fast charging option that can top up the battery from 20-80 percent in just 45 minutes (claimed).

The exact launch timeline is not yet revealed but once launched, this small EV will take on the likes of the MG Comet and Tata Tiago EV.

In a surprise move, Tata Motors has reduced the prices for the Tata Nexon EV and Tiago EV! The prices for the former now start at Rs 14.49 lakh, ex-showroom, (reduced by Rs 25,000) while the Long Range variant is now priced at Rs 16.99 lakh onwards, ex-showroom, (reduced by Rs 1.2 lakh). The most affordable Tata EV, the Tiago EV, is now affordable by up to Rs 70,000, with prices now starting at Rs 7.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

The recent reduction in the costs of battery cells, a major contributor to the price of an EV, has been cited as the reason for this price cut. Although, the recent price revision for the MG ZS EV, Comet and the arrival of the Mahindra XUV400 Pro range might have also played a role in the price reduction for both cars.

The recently updated Nexon EV currently holds the crown for the best selling electric car in the country and is on offer with two battery pack options – 30kWh and 40.5kWh. The former is paired to a 129PS motor and delivers a claimed range of 325km while the latter gets a more powerful 145PS motor with a claimed range of 465km on a single charge. It is also a feature packed car with a fully-digital instrument cluster and a big 12.5-inch infotainment display being two of the highlights.

The Tiago EV was first launched in 2022 and also comes with two battery pack options – 19.2kWh and 24kWh. They offer a claimed range of 250km and 315km and are paired to a 61PS and 75PS motor, respectively. It gets features like connected car tech and Android Auto Apple CarPlay.

The prices for other Tata Motor EVs, the Punch EV and Tigor EV remain unchanged, though. The Nexon EV primarily competes against the Mahindra XUV400 and its top variant prices coincide with the MG ZS EV. On the other hand, the Tiago EV competes against the MG Comet and Citroen e-C3.

BMW, one of the leading luxury EV carmakers in India, is looking to solidify its position with the launch of its most affordable electric vehicle in the country, the iX1. Launched at Rs 66.90 lakh, ex-showroom, the iX1 comes to India as a CBU and its deliveries are set to commence in October 2023.

There are not many design elements to set the iX1 apart from its ICE sibling, the closed off kidney grille which gets ‘i’ badging and blue accents on the logo, being the major ones. Being the M Sport variant, it gets 18-inch M light alloys and large diffuser at the rear. Things are again familiar inside with the BMW curved display taking the centre stage and you also get dual-zone climate control along with massaging seats for front passengers.

The iX1 gets dual electric motors (one on each axle) that put out a combined output of 313PS and 494Nm. Powering the motors is a 66.4kWh battery pack, capable of providing a range of 447km on a single charge (WLTP-claimed). It can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 180kmph. The suspension duties are handled by M Adaptive suspension.

Charging the iX1 from 0-100 percent should take around 6.3 hours with the complimentary 11kW wallbox charger. It also supports 130kW DC fast charging which can top up the electric SUV from 0-80 percent in just 29 minutes.

The primary competitors to the BMW iX1 are the Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharged and C40 Recharge.
