Volkswagen has recently shared a short teaser on its social media platforms, hinting at an upcoming SUV launch for the Indian market. This move signals the brand’s intent to expand it’s presence the premium three-row SUV segment in India, as it already has the Tiguan R line.

The Volkswagen Tayron is likely to be introduced in the sportier R-Line variant. The Tayron is expected to be launched sometime this year. It is likely to be priced in the ₹45–50 lakh range (ex-showroom), placing it firmly in the premium SUV category.

Globally, the Tayron is positioned between the Tiguan and the Touareg and is based on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform. For India, it is expected to be offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 201PS and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. VW is expected to continue with a petrol-only strategy in this segment.

In terms of features, the Tayron is expected to offer a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is also likely to get a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a premium 700W Harman Kardon sound system.

On the safety front, the SUV is expected to be equipped with nine airbags, ABS with EBD, and an ADAS suite, along with features such as TPMS, ESP, and an electronic parking brake.

The Volkswagen Tayron will rival models like the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Citroën C5 Aircross, and Hyundai Tucson. More details regarding variants and the launch timeline are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

A little over 10 days have passed since the unveiling of the facelifted Harrier and Safari, and the two SUVs have finally gone on sale in India. With prices starting at Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 16.19 lakh, ex-showroom respectively, both SUVs as part of the midlife refresh have received extensive changes inside and out. The former is offered in the Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Fearless and Fearless+ variants, while the latter will be offered in the Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished and the Accomplished+ variants.

On the outside, while there wasn’t much to differentiate the Harrier and Safari aside from the third row for the latter, the facelift has given them their own distinct identities. What’s common however is the exterior changes make them look sportier than before while taking inspiration from the Curvv concept.

Head inside and the Harrier and Safari have received a similar overhaul with the main highlight being the new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, ambient lighting and a new steering wheel with the illuminated logo taking centre stage.

Powering both SUVs continue to be powered by the same 170PS 2.0-litre diesel engine with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The automatic variants now get paddle shifters added to the mix.

The plethora of updates on the 2023 Harrier and Safari should help both SUVs fare better against the intense competition within their segments. The former has the likes of the MG Hector and the 5-seater variants of the Mahindra XUV700 for company, while the latter will take on the MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and the Mahindra XUV700.
