While Mahindra recently unveiled five new electric SUV concepts, the XUV400 is the Indian carmaker's first electric SUV offering. Set to launch in January next year, the compact electric SUV is brimming with potential and on paper, punches a segment above, going head-to-head with not just the Tata Nexon EV Max but also higher segment EVs like the Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV. It packs in a powerful EV powertrain than delivers 150PS and 310Nm, allowing the EV to accelerate to 100kmph in a claimed 8.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 150kmph. Its headlining figure is its range of 456km, the highest in its class. The XUV400 also gets fast-charging capability and with a 50kW DC fast-charger, its battery can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 50 minutes. We drove the XUV400 at the Mahindra Research Valley to find out if its rivals should be worried.
