Piaggio Apé E-City was the first electric three-wheeler in the Indian market, just as the original Apé was the first three-wheeler in the global market 65 years ago

Piaggio Apé E-City FX Max has been given an update, while the new range-topping Piaggio Apé E-City Ultra has been launched, priced at ₹3.30 lakh and ₹3.88 lakh ex-showroom, respectively. Since launching in 2019, much before other manufacturers have considered venturing into the electric three-wheeler sector, the Piaggio Apé E-City has been updated every two years without fail to meet evolving customer expectations and demands. So it is no surprise that 2025 is when the next big news comes from Piaggio about the Apé E-City.

The new Apé E-City Ultra is powered by a new motor, which pumps out 9.55kW (13PS) and 45Nm—much improved figures as compared to the 5.44kW (7.4PS) and 29Nm found before. The top speed is 55kmph, which is an improvement of 5kmph. The gradeability has also been enhanced, with the current capability standing at 28 percent as compared to the 20 percent it was before. There’s even a Climb Assist mode for a burst of power to help with climbs when fully loaded.

The old lithium-ion battery has been replaced by a new lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, which has a capacity of 10.2 kWh, as opposed to the 8 kWh battery in the older Apé models. It comes with a 3kW charger, which can fully charge it in 3 hours and 45 minutes. The claimed range is 236 km, which should yield a real-world range of 205 ± 5 km/h, as per the manufacturer.

While all of this is reserved for the top-of-the-range Apé E-City Ultra, the Apé E-City FX Max has been given some attention as well, such as slightly more power at 7.4kW, prismatic cell technology for the batteries, which still has the same capacity of 8kWh and smart energy monitoring.
