• The Volkswagen Touareg gets a midlife refresh

The updates are largely focused on sharper looks and more tech on offer

After being teased in the Arctic circle, Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the facelifted Touareg in markets abroad. Despite being a facelift, a lot has changed in the SUV to give it a more aggressive presence.

Starting with the exteriors, we’ve got sharper styling thanks to the new IQ. Light HD LED matrix headlamps, a revised front grille and an illuminated badge at the rear. There’s also a lighting strip that spans from one end to the other both at the front and rear. Rounding off the visual changes are  new wheel designs that go up to 21-inch units.

Inside, the main highlight is a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system which now gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Complementing it is a 12-inch digital driver’s display, updated ambient lighting, USB Type-C ports, and a heads-up display.

Under the hood, it's all V6 power for the SUV with a turbocharged V6 petrol, two turbo diesels, and two plug-in hybrid options on offer. All engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 4MOTION all-wheel-drivetrain. The carmaker has also tinkered around with the suspension for better stability.

While the Volkswagen Touareg isn’t an SUV sold in India, it is the flagship model for the carmaker in terms of SUVs. So we can expect some of its intricacies to trickle down to the likes of the Taigun if it gets a midlife refresh anytime soon.
