• Kawasaki Z900 RS returns to India at Rs 16.47 lakh

The model had been missing from Kawasaki India’s lineup since BS6 emission norms were implemented

Ever since the BS6 emission norms came about, a bunch of motorcycles disappeared from our market, the Kawasaki Z900 RS being one of them. However, now it has returned, and people who missed their chance to buy a Kawasaki Z1 in the 80s can now pick up an inline-four cylinder retro monster once again at their local Kawasaki dealerships at Rs 16.47 lakh, ex-showroom.

The colour options available are called “Candy Tone Blue'' and “Metallic Diablo Black”, with both shades exuding a retro flavour. The motor remains unchanged, with the 948cc engine pumping out 111PS and 98.5Nm, which should be plenty for a motorcycle which weighs 215kg (kerb). The Z900 RS has USD forks and a horizontal-link rear monoshock, and it comes with traction control and a slip-and-assist clutch.

Globally the Yamaha XSR900 is a direct rival, but in India, the Kawasaki Z900 RS occupies a unique market position, where there aren’t any motorcycles that can match its retro looks and modern performance. The Ducati Scrambler range comes close, but that’s about it.
