Bentley has showcased the all-new, fourth generation Continental GT, along with its convertible version, the Continental GTC, as the most powerful road-going offering from the British luxury car maker yet. Despite dropping the iconic W12 engine in favor of the all-new hybrid powertrain—a combination of the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine and an electric motor—the new Continental GT offers an impressive 780PS and 1,000Nm of torque. This includes 600PS and 800Nm from the V8 engine, complemented by 190PS and 450Nm from the electric motor. The combined outputs mark a significant increase over the previous W12 model, with a claimed 0-100kmph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 335kmph. The electric motor is integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission.
The new Continental GT is a plug-in hybrid featuring a 25.9kWh battery pack, providing an electric-only range of 81km. Despite sharing the platform with its predecessor, Bentley distinguishes this as the fourth generation Continental GT due to substantial mechanical and technical updates. The design reflects Bentley’s departure from the traditional twin headlamp setup, opting instead for single, oval-shaped headlamps with a distinctive DRL design reminiscent of the Bentley Bacalar. Nevertheless, the new GT retains the grand tourer’s hallmark long, low-slung stance and imposing presence, enhanced by 22-inch wheels and a choice of various wheel designs. The integrated spoiler on the boot replaces the previous active spoiler.
Underpinning the new Continental GT is Bentley’s Performance Active Chassis, which incorporates all-wheel drive, electronic limited slip differential, all-wheel steering, torque vectoring, Bentley’s dynamic ride active anti-roll system, and updated electronic stability control software. The car also benefits from upgraded air suspension all around, promising improved cushioning and handling dynamics. Surprisingly, Bentley has maintained the interior design from the outgoing model, which continues to exude opulence with high-quality materials throughout. Notable inside is the dashboard-mounted rotating 12-inch infotainment screen. Although the design remains unchanged, Bentley has made enhancements to in-car systems like air conditioning and driver-assist systems for improved comfort and convenience.
The new Continental GT is set to go on sale in India later this year, with prices starting around Rs 6 crores ex-showroom.
