•  The Volkswagen Virtus Gets Racy For The ITC

Replacing the Vento ITC race car, VW Motorsport has tinkered around a lot to soup up the Virtus

The Volkswagen Virtus GT is already a fun-to-drive sedan as we’ve mentioned in our first drive review. But things can be improved, and Volkswagen Motorsport has done just that by unveiling the Virtus GT race car.  It has been built for the Indian Touring Car championship regulations and will replace the Vento ITC race car.

So what has VW Motorsport done to soup up the Virtus GT? For a start, its 1.5-litre TSI engine has been boosted to make 215PS of grunt and 300Nm of twist. Paired to a six-speed sequential gearbox that distributes power to the front wheels, while performance figures haven’t surfaced, it should be quicker than the standard model.

Getting to the more visual changes, the Virtus race car rides lower, gets a stronger chassis, has bolder 17-inch wheels with MRF rubber wrapped around them. The headlights and taillights have been blacked-out too, complementing the already racy livery. Keeping the driver safe are of course FIA-certified racing seats, a six-point harness, and an onboard fire extinguisher.

You won’t have to wait too long before the Volkswagen Virtus GT race car takes to the track as it will make its racing debut at the season opening round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Car Championship at the MMRT circuit in Chennai between October 8-9. Sandeep Kumar and Jeet Jhabak will be piloting the race-spec Virtus.
